Dual subtitles don't work. Every other tool puts two lines on your screen: the foreign one, and your own. And every time, your eye goes to the language you already speak. You finish the episode feeling productive. You learned nothing. Poliglotter does the opposite. It leaves the sentence in your language and swaps in a few foreign words — only as many as you can actually handle right now. You read normally. You understand everything. But a handful of words are new, and because the rest of the sentence carries you, you work them out from context instead of looking them up. Then, as you learn them, it swaps in more. That's comprehensible input: material one notch above your level. It's the least glamorous idea in language learning and the only one with decades of research behind it. ── One engine, everywhere you read ── Poliglotter injects phrases into whatever text is already in front of you — a Netflix subtitle, a YouTube caption, a news article, a Wikipedia page. Same mechanic in all of them. You don't set aside time to study. You watch what you were going to watch and read what you were going to read. Click any injected word to hear it, see it in context, and save it. Saved phrases sync to the Poliglotter mobile app, so the words you met on Netflix last night come back for review on the train. ── Why it asks for permission to read pages ── To replace words in the text on a page, Poliglotter has to see that text. That's what the "read your data on websites" permission is for. You can exclude any site from settings, and the extension does nothing on sites you exclude. ── What it isn't ── It isn't a dictionary overlay. It isn't dual subtitles with extra steps. It won't teach you 5,000 words in a week, and anything that promises you will is lying. It's a slow, quiet way to keep meeting the same words in real sentences until you stop needing to think about them.
