A browser extension that validates sitemaps right in your browser. Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is sent to external servers, so you can use it with confidence. WHAT IT CHECKS ────────────── ✅ Structural correctness Checks XML syntax, root tags, namespace, URL count limit (50,000), missing <loc> tags, URL schemes, length limit (2,048 chars), UTF-8 encoding, and more. ✅ Lastmod quality Detects invalid date formats, future dates, and cases where nearly all entries share the same date. ✅ Domain authority Flags URLs that belong to domains outside the sitemap's authority. ✅ robots.txt consistency Cross-checks whether URLs in the sitemap are blocked by the site's own robots.txt. ✅ Extension sitemaps Detects image, video, news, and mobile namespaces (image:, video:, news:, mobile:) and validates their required fields and value formats. ✅ hreflang Checks self-referencing links, duplicate language codes, reciprocal link integrity, BCP 47 format, and unofficial region codes (like "UK" instead of "GB"). ✅ Live URL inspection Actually fetches the URLs listed in your sitemap to see how they behave. Automatically checks a random sample of 30 URLs for HTTP status, redirects, canonical matches (✓/✗), lastmod drift (+N days / −N days), noindex signals, and more. During checks, requests are automatically paced by how many are queued, and slow down temporarily when server errors (5xx / 429) are detected — easing the load on the site being audited. 🔍 SITEMAP DISCOVERY ────────────── Reads the current page's robots.txt and automatically lists the sitemaps it declares. 📂 LOCAL FILE VALIDATION ────────────── Sitemaps that aren't live yet can be loaded directly with the 📂 button (evaluated against the current tab's domain). ℹ️ TRANSPARENCY PER CHECK ────────────── The ℹ icon next to each result shows an explanation quoting the relevant passage from the sitemaps.org or Google Search Central specification. HOW TO USE ────────────── 1. Open the sitemap URL you want to validate (e.g. https://example.com/sitemap.xml), or navigate to any page on that site. 2. Click the Sitemap Validator icon in the Chrome toolbar. 3. The URL is filled in automatically — press Validate. To validate a local file, load it with 📂. 4. Review the health score and the errors and warnings. 5. Check how URLs behave in practice on the "URL Sample" tab. 6. If you use hreflang, review its configuration on the "hreflang" tab. 7. Sitemaps found in robots.txt are listed at the bottom — validate them individually or in bulk. 🔒 PRIVACY ────────────── All validation is processed inside your browser. Your sitemap content and validation results are never sent to external servers. Validation results are stored in Chrome's session storage and cleared automatically when you close the tab or the browser.
