Overview

Zilense - Chinese dictionary in the Chrome side panel (hover, select, search & save)

Zilense turns the whole web into Chinese reading practice and a daily HSK study tool. Hover a character or select a word and its tone-colored pinyin, English meaning, and official HSK level appear instantly in the Chrome side panel. No copy-paste, no leaving the page. Then drill the official HSK 3.0 word lists as flashcards, highlight every HSK word on a page, and export anything you star to Anki. Built for HSK exam learners • Official HSK 3.0 flashcard decks - study any level, or everything up to it, on a full-page trainer with flip cards and keyboard shortcuts. Decks come straight from the official HSK word lists, with the exact gloss, part of speech, and pinyin for each entry. Choose a pool (all / unseen / recently or ever missed), size, order, and prompt direction (character to meaning, pinyin on top). • HSK level on every entry - looked-up words show their HSK band and the official HSK gloss, with an option to show the HSK meaning first. • Highlight HSK words on any page - one click highlights every HSK word up to the level you choose, color-coded by band, so you can see at a glance which words you should already know while reading real articles. • HSK-first search - search by hanzi, pinyin (tone marks optional, e.g. "nihao"), or English; results are ranked so common and HSK words come first. • Track what you know - mark words New / Learning / Known and watch your progress build. Your study data stays on your device and can be exported or imported. • Export to Anki - turn your starred or HSK words into a tab-separated file Anki imports directly. Read Chinese anywhere and learn as you go • Hover & select lookup - point at a character to highlight and read it; select a phrase to get the whole-word reading and a character-by-character breakdown. Works on simplified and traditional pages (中國 resolves to 中国). • Smart word detection - greedy longest-match segmentation finds the actven when it is split across inline markup. • Stroke order - animated stroke-by-stroke diagrams for any character. • Example sentences - real usage from the Tatoeba corpus, on demand. • Pronunciation - hear Mandarin via your browser's speech synthesis. • Reader mode - open the current article in a clean, distraction-free rearger text, and optional tone-colored pinyin above every character, withthe dictionary still live as you read. • PDFs - open a PDF and Zilense offers to reopen it in a built-in viewerection work just like on a web page. Scanned or image-only PDFs arerecognized with offline OCR (a bundled Chinese model, no network needed), so even photographed HSK textbooks and past papers become hoverable. • Video subtitles (experimental) - on YouTube, the on-video captions getkable words that look up in the panel, and an optional dual-subtitle mode shows Chinese on top with a second language (English by default, switchable) below. This feature is experimental and depends on each site's player; Netflix support is planned for later. • Side panel or floating window - use the dictionary docked in Chrome's side panel, or pop it out into a detached window that floats free and stays put as you switch tabs. Both share your saved words, settings, and live lookups, and keyboard shirectly (rebindable in Chrome). • Saved deck and a customizable look (accent color, Chinese serif/sans face, tone colors, dark mode). Private by design. Your saved words, settings, and history stay on your device. Zilense has no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends the pages you visit anywhere. It reaches the network only when you open the example-sentences or stroke-oord. See the privacy policy for details.
