Zeal: New Tab for Tabs, History & Tasks

A new tab page to search your history, switch tabs, save link collections, and track tasks. Your data stays on your device.

Zeal turns your new tab page into one place for everything you come back to: your browsing history, your open tabs, your bookmarks, saved groups of links, and your tasks. Open a new tab, type a few letters, and get to the page you want. Your data stays in your browser. Zeal has no account, no analytics and no server. HOME • A large clock with a greeting and the date. Choose 12-hour or 24-hour time, and show seconds if you want. • Search the web with your default search engine. • Shortcuts to the sites you use. They start as your most visited sites. Add, edit, remove or drag them into your own order, up to 12. • Your next tasks and your latest collections, one click away. • Choose your wallpaper: a new photo every day, a gradient, any color, or an image of your own. • Turn off any part of Home that you do not use. HISTORY • Search your history by title or address as you type. • A side list shows the sites in your results, with a count for each. Click a site to see only its pages. • Filter by date: today, yesterday, the last 7 days, the last 30 days, or any range you choose. • Hide sites you never want to see in your results, such as your email or search pages. Use the menu next to a site, or type a minus sign and the site name in the search box (for example -youtube.com). Hidden sites stay hidden until you show them again. • Your recent searches are saved, so you can run them again with one click. • Chrome deletes history after about 90 days. Zeal keeps its own copy in your browser, so you can still find pages from months ago. You can choose to also delete a page from this copy when you delete it in Chrome. TABS • See all your open tabs in one list, from every window. • Search them and switch to a tab with one click. BOOKMARKS • Browse your bookmark folders, or search all your bookmarks at once. • Zeal asks for access to your bookmarks only when you open the Bookmarks tab for the first time. COLLECTIONS • Save all the tabs in a window as a collection with one click, and open them again later. • Import your lists from Toby, OneTab or Session Buddy. • Export your collections to a file as a backup. TASKS • Add tasks with a deadline. • Zeal shows you which tasks are overdue, on the Tasks tab and on Home. CHROME PAGES • Open Chrome settings, extensions, downloads, passwords, flags and other built-in pages from one list. VIEW • Choose a compact view to see more on the screen, or a comfortable view with more space. WHAT IS NEW IN 2.0 • A new Home page that you can change: shortcuts, wallpaper and widgets. • History filters by date and by site, hidden sites, recent searches, and a history copy that keeps pages older than 90 days. • Collections, with import from Toby, OneTab and Session Buddy. • Tasks with deadlines. • A cleaner design, with a compact view and a comfortable view. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS Zeal stores your history copy, tasks, collections and settings only in your browser. When you uninstall Zeal, Chrome deletes them. To show some content, Zeal makes requests to other services. These requests do not contain your history, tabs, tasks or bookmarks: • Lorem Picsum, for the photo of the day. • Google's favicon service, for website icons. It gets the domain name of each site that Zeal shows. • Your default search engine, only when you search from Home. Why Zeal asks for each permission: • History: to show and search your browsing history. • Tabs: to list your open tabs and switch to them. • Storage: to save your tasks, collections, settings and history copy in your browser. • Bookmarks (only when you allow it): to show your bookmarks.
