ZapKeep — Tab Suspender & Session Manager
Overview
Suspend inactive tabs to save memory, plus save & restore tab sessions. 100% local — no accounts, no servers, no tracking.
ZapKeep is a privacy-first tab manager that suspends inactive tabs to free memory and lets you save, restore, and search your tab sessions — all stored 100% locally on your device. No accounts. No servers. No analytics. No tracking. Nothing you do ever leaves your browser. This isn't a marketing line — the extension has no way to send your data anywhere, and requests only the permissions it genuinely needs. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHAT IT DOES ● Suspend inactive tabs Free up memory by suspending tabs you're not using. Suspended tabs keep their title and favicon, and restore with a single click — right where you left off. ● Auto-suspend (optional) Turn on auto-suspend and ZapKeep will suspend tabs after they've been inactive for about your chosen time (5 minutes to 2 hours). Off by default — you're always in control. ● Never-suspend list Add any site to your allowlist and its tabs will never be suspended. Pinned tabs, active tabs, and tabs playing audio are always left alone automatically. ● Save & restore sessions Save all the tabs in a window as a named session, then restore them anytime in a fresh window. Great for projects, research, or clearing your workspace without losing anything. ● Search everything Search across your open tabs and saved sessions at once. Jump to any open tab or restore any session instantly. ● Export & import — your data is yours Export all your sessions to a JSON file for backup, or to move between machines. Import them back anytime. No lock-in, ever. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ PRIVACY BY DESIGN Everything ZapKeep stores — your sessions, settings, and never-suspend list — lives only in your browser's local storage. There is no external server, no account system, and no telemetry of any kind. Suspended tabs even survive a browser restart, because their state is stored locally, not in the cloud. Permissions we request, and why: - Tabs — to read tab titles and URLs so they can be saved, searched, suspended, and restored. This data never leaves your device. - Storage — to save your sessions, settings, and allowlist locally. - Alarms — to periodically check which tabs have been inactive long enough to auto-suspend. That's it. No host permissions, no access to page content. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ HONEST NOTES - Auto-suspend timing is approximate (checked about once a minute), so a tab set to 30 minutes suspends at roughly 30–31 minutes. - ZapKeep frees memory by unloading the original page and showing a lightweight placeholder you click to restore. - System pages (chrome://, extension pages) can't be suspended or saved — that's a browser rule, not a limitation we chose. Built for people who want their tabs — and their data — fully under their own control.
