The extension is designed to help viewers understand videos in other languages by combining caption detection, translation, and text-to-speech dubbing in one simple interface. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open a YouTube video that contains captions. 2. Click the YouTube Video Dubber extension icon. 3. Select the source language of the video. 4. Select the language you want to hear. 5. Choose a voice and adjust the speech settings. 6. Click “Start Dubbing.” The extension detects the captions displayed on the active YouTube video, translates them into the selected target language, and reads the translated text aloud. YouTube Video Dubber processes these caption updates and groups them into understandable speech segments. The extension avoids repeatedly reading the beginning of a caption when a second caption line appears. It also manages the speech queue to reduce delays and keep the dubbed voice as close as possible to the current video position. AUDIO CONTROLS You can independently adjust: • Original Audio: Controls the volume of the YouTube video • Dubbed Voice: Controls the volume of the translated speech • Speech Rate: Controls how quickly translated captions are spoken Reducing the original audio can make the translated voice easier to understand while still allowing you to hear background sounds from the video. CAPTION REQUIREMENTS The extension works best when the YouTube video has manual or automatically generated captions. If captions are unavailable, disabled, inaccurate, or delayed by YouTube, the extension may not be able to provide accurate dubbing.
