Overview

Real Fisher-Yates shuffle for YouTube playlists. Shuffles the whole playlist, not just the part loaded on screen.

YouTube's shuffle has two well-known problems: it favours the same handful of videos, and it only ever works with the part of the playlist that is loaded. On a 400-video playlist you keep hearing the same 50 tracks. This extension adds one small button next to YouTube's own shuffle control. Turn it on and playback follows a genuinely random order. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT - Real randomness. A Fisher-Yates shuffle produces a uniformly random order, and every video plays once before any repeats. When a full pass finishes, the order is reshuffled for the next lap. - The WHOLE playlist. The extension reads the complete playlist through the same page data YouTube itself uses, so a 400-video playlist is shuffled across all 400 videos - not just the first 100 rendered on screen. - Your playlist is never touched. Nothing is reordered, added, or removed on YouTube's servers. Only the playback order in your browser tab changes. - Remembers where you were. The shuffled order is kept per playlist, so reloading the page does not restart or re-randomise anything. - Handles autoplay and Shift+N, so YouTube's own "next" does not override your shuffled order. - Off means off. When toggled off, YouTube behaves exactly as it always did. PRIVACY No data is collected. No analytics, no tracking, no remote code, no server. The only stored data is the shuffled order itself, kept locally on your computer. The extension runs on youtube.com and nowhere else. KNOWN LIMITS - Mixes and radio playlists (auto-generated, endless) have no finite list to shuffle, so only the loaded portion is randomised there. - YouTube changes its page markup often. If the button ever disappears after a YouTube update, an extension update will follow.
