Overview

Read YouTube transcripts and subtitles, search, take local notes, and export subtitles. Import SRT, VTT, or TXT locally.

CaptionDock gives existing subtitles a quiet place beside the video. Read at your own pace, search for a line, and keep the words you want to return to. Features: - Read captions made available by the current desktop YouTube video. - Switch between original cues and a paragraph reading view, with source text retained. - Search locally and jump to a cue in the matching current video. - Copy selected cues or the full transcript. Quote a video cue with a timestamp link when the source has video timing. - Export TXT, Markdown, SRT, or VTT. - Import your own UTF-8 SRT, VTT, or TXT file, up to 5 MB. - Save transcript history and notes on this device. Edit or delete notes, choose a history limit, or clear the library. - Use English or Simplified Chinese interface labels. Timing and source details stay visible. Page transcript rows are marked partial because hidden or unloaded cues may be missing. Unknown end times stay unknown. You can explicitly choose approximate ends when exporting timed subtitles; estimates are labeled, and SRT comes with a separate source metadata file. TXT files do not gain invented timestamps. No account, telemetry, AI processing, or cloud sync is included. Transcripts and notes are stored in the extension's local IndexedDB; settings use Chrome local storage. The extension can request the current video's available caption track from YouTube, but does not upload your library. CaptionDock reads existing captions. It does not transcribe audio, translate text, summarize videos, or download video/audio. Access depends on the current YouTube page and video. If captions are unavailable, you can import a file. Removing the extension or clearing its browser data removes its local library, so export anything you want to keep first. CaptionDock is an independent tool and is not affiliated with YouTube or Google.
