YouTube Transcript Helper What it does - Adds a toolbar button on YouTube watch pages to open a clean transcript viewer in a new tab. - Adds a right-click “Copy Transcript to Clipboard” menu item on YouTube videos/pages to instantly copy the full transcript. - Automatically detects when transcripts are available and uses clear icons to show availability. - Works with YouTube’s built-in transcripts; no external services or accounts required. Why install it - Save time copying or reading transcripts without hunting through YouTube’s UI. - Quickly reuse transcripts for notes, quotes, captions, or translation. - Lightweight, privacy-friendly, and runs entirely in your browser. How to use - Toolbar button: On a YouTube video page, click the extension’s toolbar icon. A new tab opens with the transcript in a clean layout. - Context menu: Right-click on a YouTube video/page and choose “Copy Transcript to Clipboard.” The transcript is fetched and copied automatically; you’ll see an alert on success or failure. Permissions explained - Tabs: Needed to detect YouTube watch pages, update the action icon, and send/receive messages with the content script. - Context menus: Needed to add the “Copy Transcript to Clipboard” right-click option. Notes and limitations - Only works on YouTube videos that have transcripts available. - If a transcript is missing or slow to load, the icon will show the disabled style until availability is detected; you’ll also see an error if you try to copy when none is available.
