YouTube Summarizer: AI Video Summary & Transcript, Free, No API Key
Overview
Free AI YouTube summaries and transcripts. Private on-device AI, or send to ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude. No API key, no sign-up.
Get the summary of any YouTube video in seconds, and the full transcript with it. Free, with no account, no API key and no subscription. Open a video, click the icon, press Summarize. There is nothing to type and nothing to paste: the transcript is fetched for you and a short overview with the key points comes back, so you can tell whether a 40-minute video is worth your time before you spend it. WHERE THE SUMMARY IS MADE, YOUR CHOICE • Local AI, your browser's own built-in model. The video summary is generated on your device and nothing is uploaded anywhere. • Or hand the video to Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude in a tab where you are already signed in. Your prompt and the transcript are typed in and submitted for you. Free either way. This extension has no server of its own, sells no credits and asks for no API key. WHAT YOU GET • Video summaries in one click, as a short overview followed by the key points, not a wall of text. • The full video transcript beside the summary, fetched for you and copied with one click. • Summarize without opening the video: hover any thumbnail in search results, the home feed or the sidebar and press the button on it. • Right-click any YouTube link, anywhere, and choose Summarize this video. It works on a link in a search result, a chat or an email. • Summaries are saved per video, so opening the same one again is instant and costs nothing. • Long videos are handled in parts, so a three-hour talk is summarized in full instead of only its opening. • Works on Shorts as well as regular videos. • A keyboard shortcut, Ctrl+Shift+. (Cmd+Shift+. on Mac). • The list of videos you have summarized, kept in one place. • Your own prompt. The default asks for an overview and bullets; change it and every summary follows it. • The summary comes back in the language the video is captioned in, read from the caption track itself. • The extension reads in 21 languages, and lays out right-to-left languages correctly. • Dark mode follows your system theme. WHO IT IS FOR Students working through lectures, developers watching conference talks, anyone researching from long interviews, podcasts and reviews, and anyone whose watch-later list has stopped being realistic. Read the summary, decide, then watch the part that matters. PRIVACY There is no backend, no analytics and no account. Your prompt, your settings and the cached transcripts and summaries stay in your own Chrome profile. With Local AI nothing leaves your device at all; with the other assistants, the transcript goes only to the page you chose to send it to. Not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube, Google, OpenAI or Anthropic. Product names are mentioned only to say which assistants this extension can hand a video to.
