YouTube Obsidian Clipper
Overview
Grab YouTube captions, preview Markdown, and save notes to Obsidian Local REST API.
YouTube Obsidian Clipper helps Obsidian users capture caption-based notes from YouTube videos. Open a YouTube video, click the extension, choose a caption track or an available YouTube auto-translated track, preview the transcript, copy Markdown, download SRT/TXT, open a configurable reading view with playback-synced subtitle highlighting and reader preferences, save directly to Obsidian through the local Obsidian Local REST API, or discuss the video and loaded YouTube comments in the AI side panel. If a preferred YouTube caption track returns an empty timedtext response, the extension automatically tries a bounded set of other available caption tracks before falling back to the page transcript. The extension runs locally in your browser. It reads the current YouTube page URL, visible video metadata, caption track URLs, caption text, and comments already loaded on the page. It can optionally send generated Markdown to your local Obsidian REST endpoint. If you configure an AI provider and send a chat message, it can send your prompt, selected video context, generated Markdown, and loaded comments directly from your browser to your configured OpenAI-compatible model endpoint.
