Overview

This extension allows you to view YouTube links and video chapters from the active tab in a convenient popup.

A YouTube sidebar extension with chapter navigation, AI chapter generation, TL;DR summaries, and video speed controls. What's new: - AI Chapter Generation — For videos without chapters, uses YouTube's built-in AI when available. Falls back to clipboard mode (copy transcript for any AI app) or direct API mode (connect to any OpenAI-compatible API like local vLLM/Ollama). - TL;DR — Generates a structured summary using YouTube's built-in AI: an overall summary paragraph followed by key points with inline timestamp links. - Video Speed Controls — Quickly adjust playback speed directly from the popup. The current speed is shown in the button label. What it does: - Shows chapters for the current video - Click one to jump to it - AI chapter generation for videos without chapters - TL;DR tab: summary + key points with clickable timestamp links - Video playback speed controls - Quick links to Home, Subscriptions, Watch Later, History, and YouTube search - Alt+Y to open (customizable in chrome://extensions/shortcuts) - Works with dark mode Changelog: 1.0.377 - AI-generated chapters and TL;DR results now persist across Chrome restarts 1.0.376 - Added YouTube search box to the popup nav - type a query and press Enter to open results in a new tab 1.0.374 - Speed control +/-5% buttons now use additive steps (e.g. 1.10 -> 1.15 -> 1.20) instead of multiplicative 10% increments 1.0.372 - Added TL;DR tab alongside the Chapters tab - generates a structured summary using YouTube's built-in AI (YouChat) - TL;DR output shows an overall summary paragraph followed by key points with bold titles and inline timestamp range links - Clicking a timestamp link seeks the video and closes the popup - Edit Prompt dialog now has Chapters/TL;DR inner tabs for independent prompt customization 1.0.361 - Added YouTube built-in AI chapter generation — uses YouTube's "Ask" panel when available; falls back to clipboard/API mode automatically - Shows a clear message when YouTube AI is unavailable and no transcript is found - Fixed instructions not pre-populating in the options dialog 1.0.353 - Improved AI chapter generation: rewrote prompt to reduce over-segmentation — targets fewer, broader chapters by merging related segments and enforcing coarser granularity 1.0.351 - Fixed active chapter not being highlighted (YouTube changed their DOM, switched to video.currentTime for reliability) 1.0.348 - Fixed false chapter appearing on videos without chapters (affiliate redirect links in description were misidentified as chapter timestamps) - Fixed transcript extraction broken by YouTube DOM update (now uses ytd-transcript-segment-renderer) 1.0.345 - Added video playback speed controls in popup - Added settings page to configure AI API endpoint, model, and prompt - Active chapter is now highlighted as you watch 1.0.328 - Added AI chapter generation for videos without chapters - Clipboard mode: copies the transcript so you can paste it into any AI app - Direct API mode: connects to any OpenAI-compatible API (e.g. local Ollama/vLLM) 1.0.318 - Added Alt+Y hotkey to open/close popup - Hotkey is customizable
