Overview
YouTube speed control, a Shorts limit and a cleaner feed. Also caps Reels and TikTok, and sets your speed on any video site.
ClearView is a YouTube speed controller, a Shorts blocker and a distraction-free viewing mode in one Chrome extension. Hide Shorts, recommendations, comments and the home feed, turn autoplay off, play every video at your own speed from 0.25× to 16×, and set a daily time limit for Shorts that actually holds. Watch what you came for, then get on with your day. It works the moment you install it. Open the extension, tap the Focus set, and every YouTube tab gets quieter at once, with no page reload. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CLEAN UP YOUTUBE: HIDE SHORTS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND MORE Choose exactly what you want to see. ClearView has 26 options, each with one line saying exactly what it hides, so you never break a page without knowing why. • Hide the home feed: the endless grid of suggested videos is replaced by a calm page that points you to search or Subscriptions. • Hide Shorts everywhere: Shorts shelves on the home page, Shorts in search results and in your feeds, and the Shorts tab. • Remove recommended videos from the watch page. When nothing else is in the side column, the video moves to the centre. • Hide comments, live chat, the description, end-screen suggestions, end cards and info cards. • Hide Mixes, the auto-generated playlists that never end. • Hide search detours: the "People also watched" and similar shelves that pull you away from what you searched for. • Turn off hover previews, so thumbnails stop playing when your pointer passes over them. • Turn autoplay off, so the next video never starts by itself. • Open Subscriptions instead of Home when you go to YouTube. • Play Shorts in the normal video player, with a timeline and normal controls. • Tidy the page: hide the video title, the channel row, the action buttons, the playlist panel, the top bar, the notifications bell, the subscriptions list in the sidebar, More from YouTube, profile photos, merch and ticket shelves, and fundraisers. THE FOCUS SET: ONE TAP Not sure where to start? The Focus set turns on the nine options that matter most (the home feed, Shorts, Mixes, search detours, hover previews, recommendations, end-screen suggestions, end cards and autoplay) in one tap, with Undo. PAUSE WHEN YOU NEED TO Need to see everything for a moment? Pause clean-up for 15 minutes or an hour and it turns itself back on, or keep it paused until you choose. Your choices are always kept. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ YOUTUBE SPEED CONTROL: YOUR SPEED ON EVERY VIDEO Watch lectures, tutorials, podcasts and talks at the speed that suits you. • Every video starts at your speed, from 0.25× to 16×, with twelve presets: 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75×, 2×, 2.5×, 3×, 4×, 6×, 8×, 12× and 16×. • Playback speed keyboard shortcuts while a video plays: A for slower, D for faster, and S for "1× and back", which drops to normal speed for a tricky part and returns to your speed on the next press. • Change the shortcut keys, choose how far each press moves the speed, or require Shift so the keys never clash with a site's own shortcuts. • Typing in a search box or a comment never changes the speed. • A small readout on the video shows the new speed as you change it. • Change the speed in one tab and it reaches the playing video in every tab. • Your speed holds from one video to the next, and after ads. A video speed controller for any site: turn ClearView on for a course site, a lecture player or any other site with video, and every video there starts at your speed too. YouTube videos embedded on other sites get it as well. Muted, looping clips such as GIFs are left alone. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ A DAILY TIME LIMIT FOR SHORTS Short videos are built to keep you scrolling. ClearView gives you one daily allowance and holds you to it. • Set a daily limit from 5 minutes to 4 hours. • Turn ClearView on for other short-video sites and they share the same allowance, so switching apps doesn't reset it. • Only the seconds a video actually plays are counted. A paused Short doesn't count. • See how much short video you have left today, and your last 7 days in a simple chart. • At the limit, short videos pause and stay hidden until midnight, with a calm screen and a way onward: go to your Subscriptions, or close the tab. • An optional password guards anything that loosens the limit: turning it off, raising it, or resetting today. Lowering the limit never asks. The password is a speed bump for your own impulses, not parental control: anyone can remove an extension, and ClearView says so. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ON THE SITES YOU CHOOSE ClearView runs on YouTube from the moment you install it. Every other site is your choice, one at a time, and Chrome asks for that one site only. • Popular social sites get their own clean-up options: hide the endless feed, short-video tabs, trends and suggestions, each with a one-tap Focus set. • Short-video sites count toward your one daily limit. • Any other site with video gets your playback speed and shortcut keys. The popup lists every supported site and what ClearView does there, so you can see before you turn one on. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account and no sign-up. • No analytics, no ads, no tracking. • Your settings and your watch-time totals stay in your browser's own storage and are never sent anywhere. • ClearView reads a page only inside your browser, to hide what you chose and set the video speed. • Light and dark themes follow your system. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHO IT'S FOR Students and people who learn from video: lectures, courses and tutorials at 1.5× or more, without losing an evening to the feed. Anyone who opens YouTube for one video and looks up an hour later from the Shorts tab. Anyone who wants to cut down on short videos without deleting the apps they need. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ HOW TO START 1. Add ClearView to Chrome. 2. Pin it: click the puzzle piece in Chrome's toolbar, then the pin beside ClearView. 3. Open YouTube, click ClearView and tap the Focus set. 4. Set your speed in the Speed tab, and your daily limit in the Shorts tab. Already using ClearView? Your settings carry over when it updates. Made by DRISH LABS · drishlabs.com
