Overview

Pick a default resolution once, and YouTube stops lowering it: every video and Short, from 144p up to 8K.

YouTube Auto Quality sets the playback resolution for you on youtube.com. Choose a level once (1080p, 4K, 480p to save data, or Auto) and every clip you open starts at it, Shorts included. If YouTube keeps lowering quality to 360p on a fast connection, this is the fix: think of it as YouTube auto HD that you control. ✨ WHAT YOU GET • Your level applies to each watch page and each Short as it loads, so the gear menu stays closed. • Nine steps run from 144p up to 8K, plus Auto to hand the decision back to the site. • When a level is missing, you get the nearest one: ask for 1440p on an upload that tops out at 1080p and it opens at that, the highest option at or below your choice. • It waits until an ad ends and sets the resolution on the actual stream, so ads are left alone. • Moving to the next clip without a page reload, it applies your setting again. • Switch resolution in the player's own settings and that choice becomes your new default. • The setting lives in browser sync storage, so another computer signed into the same browser account gets it too. ⚙️ HOW IT WORKS 1. Click the toolbar icon to open the picker. 2. Tap a tile: 720p, 4K or any other step on the ladder. 3. Open something to watch. The player switches within a moment of loading; if it does not respond, the extension makes the same choice through the settings menu, out of sight. 💡 GOOD TO KNOW How do I set a default video quality? Choose a level here once and it applies everywhere, so you no longer reset it by hand. Can it save mobile data? Yes: lock 480p or 360p on a metered hotspot and the picture stops jumping to HD. Can I force 1080p? Select it; uploads that offer less play at their best available resolution. 🔒 PRIVACY The only thing stored is your chosen level. No account, no analytics, no tracking: nothing about what you watch leaves your browser. It runs on YouTube pages only. 🌍 The picker speaks 55 languages and follows your system's light or dark theme.
