Screenshot for YouTube & Other Video Services — Version 3.1.0 Capture any frame of a video with a single click. This release is the biggest update the extension has ever had: every known bug has been fixed, the popup has been completely redesigned, and a set of long-requested features has arrived. WHAT IT DOES A small camera button appears in the player controls on YouTube and Vimeo. Click it and the exact frame you are watching is saved at full native resolution — no progress bar, no buttons, no black bars, and no cropping in an image editor afterwards. A 4K video produces a 4K screenshot. WHAT WE FIXED The button used to disappear on YouTube. This was the single most common complaint, and the cause was subtle: the extension only watched for elements added directly to the page. When YouTube switched between videos without a full page reload, the player controls arrived buried inside a larger block of content and were never noticed, so no button was added until you refreshed by hand. The extension now re-checks the page properly and listens for YouTube's own navigation events. The button appears every time. Vimeo pages had a serious performance problem. After the extension found the player, it accidentally began watching the entire page for every possible change — including the player's clock, which updates once a second. Each update caused the button to be destroyed and rebuilt, which triggered another update, and so on. We measured it: ten seconds of playback rebuilt the button eleven times, and it grew from there. That loop is gone. Under identical conditions the new version rebuilds the button zero times. Vimeo pages are noticeably lighter. Screenshots used to fail silently. If the video had not loaded yet, or the content was protected, clicking the camera did nothing at all — no file, no message, no explanation. Every failure is now caught and explained on the page, so you always know what happened and what to do about it. File names were broken. A screenshot taken at exactly 1:30 was saved as "Title - 1:.png" because of a flaw in how seconds were calculated. Names also contained a colon, which Windows does not allow in file names, were never cleaned of other illegal characters, kept YouTube's " - YouTube" suffix, and had no hours field, so a screenshot two hours into a video was labelled 125 minutes. All of this is fixed, and you can now choose your own naming pattern. Also fixed: the Vimeo switch showed the Netflix logo; the "new" badge on the toolbar icon was invisible because of a transparency error, and reappeared after every Chrome update; settings could silently read as switched off after a profile change, showing enabled in the popup while the button never appeared; and the extension logged debug messages to the console on every video page. WHAT'S NEW Keyboard shortcut. Press Alt+Shift+S to capture instantly. It works in fullscreen, where the control bar hides, and you can rebind it. Copy to clipboard. Send the screenshot straight to the clipboard instead of, or in addition to, saving it, and paste it directly into a chat or document. Choose your format. PNG for lossless quality, or JPEG and WebP with an adjustable quality slider for smaller files. Custom file names. Build your own pattern from the video title, timestamp, date and site name. A live example in the popup shows exactly what will be saved. Embedded videos now work. YouTube and Vimeo players embedded on other websites finally get the camera button — this is how most Vimeo video is actually watched, and it never worked before. Capture on any site. The keyboard shortcut and the popup button can capture the video on almost any page, not just YouTube and Vimeo. This uses a permission that only grants access at the moment you click, so the extension never watches your browsing. No more reloading. Previously you had to reload every open video tab after installing. Now open tabs are activated automatically. Protection against future breakage. If a site redesigns its player and the usual place for the button disappears, an overlay button appears on the video instead, so the extension keeps working. Protected video warning. Some services deliver copy-protected video that browsers return as a blank frame. The extension now recognises this and tells you, rather than silently saving a black image. A NEW LOOK The popup has been rebuilt from scratch: a clear status banner showing which sites are active, smooth toggle switches, a small illustration showing exactly where to find the camera button, and all advanced settings tucked into a panel that stays out of your way until you need it. SMALLER AND FASTER We removed a large icon-font library that the old design needed for a single character. The extension is now about 96% smaller to download and install, with no loss of functionality. Fully translated into more than 40 languages. No account required. No tracking.
