It was my favourite self control app...unfortunately it stopped working on MS Edge. Looking for alternatives.

Hi there, Do you have any more information about what is not working here? I just tested it in Edge, and it works fine for me (version 2.0.4 in Edge version 129). Thanks, Craig

Great Extension if used in chrome. Working with Edge, not working with Opera (setting box does not show)

This has helped so much with tab management! I have changed my settings to close the least used tabs when I try to open a new one. It isn't the default for the extension, but I highly recommend selecting that setting, its my favorite and has been the most effective one for me so far. Definitely worth it, been using it for years :)

Hi Tarun, That is deeply troubling to hear about your issue. I hope you have found a workaround. In the meantime, I have just submitted version 2.0.4 to the Chrome Web Store which enforces a 1 tab minimum to make sure this won’t happen in the future for anyone else. As soon as it is approved by Google, it should auto update and start working again for you after some period of time. Once again, I am very sorry that you ran into this problem. Craig

I'd say 4 stars when the extension works. My only complaint is that on Opera GX, whenever you'd try to actually use it and change the settings to make it work, it would just show up as a tiny little white box the size of my finger tips and wouldn't extend in any way to show settings.

Very useful! Recently it's started to lag behind though, and close two or more tabs at once after missing a couple, which makes it less predictable.

Hi Malcolm, Thanks for the review. I have noticed some odd behavior personally, and this review has helped me figure out what I think is going on. If I am correct, it is related to mandated Google changes to migrate to manifest v3 and differences in how extensions work with manifest v3 vs. v2. I am going to try to figure out a way to address/fix the issue. Thanks for your patience. UPDATE 05/26/2024: I spent a large part of the day addressing this issue and a couple others. I just submitted a new version for approval to the Chrome Web Store (version 2.0.2). It should resolve these issues. I will let you know when it is updated. UPDATE 05/27/2024: Version 2.0.2 is published to the Chrome Web Store

Closed all my tabs before I could set that it should only prevent new ones from opening. If I could give zero starts I would.

Hi Dawid, I am sorry to hear that. There is a note in the extension overview about this behavior, but unfortunately it is still not as obvious at it could be: > Note that after the extension is installed, if you do not change the default settings, it will close any tabs you have open beyond a 20 tab limit. For example, if you have 50 tabs open when the extension is installed, the next tab you open will remove 30 tabs. You can avoid this behavior by changing the default settings as soon as it is installed. The alternative behavior is that I can ignore any of the tabs already open when the extension is installed, but the problem with that is then people think the extension is not working PERIOD. If you have any idea on how I could improve this flow to either make it more clear or handle the behavior when the extension is first installed, I would be happy to try to improve it. Thank you, Craig

Until the last couple of days, I would say this is a 4-star extension. I've used this for years and used it with Brave for a couple of years, but all of a sudden in the last couple of days, it stopped working. What happens now, is when you try to open a tab that puts you over your limit, the tab is open in a new browser window instead of being blocked. So, it seems like the v2.0.1 release introduced a bug. ------------ 08-24-2024 UPDATE: The behavior has continued over all of these month... Show more

Hi Jeff, I am really sorry to hear about that. I would love to get this resolved and sorted out, but I am unable to reproduce the issue. Can I ask what settings you are using? Are you able to consistently reproduce the issue? Have you tried disabling and re-enabling the extension? As part of the new update, I had to migrate the settings from a background page to the new service worker flow that is part of Google’s manifest v3 extension format which is required for extensions to continue working starting next month. This process is very annoying and clunky, and I THOUGHT I got it right, but it is certainly possible I made a mistake in the migration process. Can you try disabling and re-enabling the extension or going into the settings and selecting them again and see if that helps? I didn’t intentionally change anything or change any actual functionality, but it is also possible that Google changed something with how their APIs work with manifest v3 extensions vs. v2. If I keep it as v2, the extension will be removed entirely starting next month. Thank you, Craig UPDATE 05/26/2024: I suspect the issue you described here may be related to the issue reported by Malcolm today. I have made a bunch of changes/fixes to address some problems, and as soon as version 2.0.2 is approved, I believe things should start working again. I am really sorry for the inconvenience, and hope you are willing to give it another shot.
