XPath Scout
Overview
Interactively build and test XPath queries on any web page. Hover + Shift to generate a query and see every match highlighted live.
XPath Scout is a lightweight tool for anyone who writes web scrapers, automated tests, or just needs to pinpoint elements on a page. Open it with the toolbar icon (or Ctrl+Shift+X) and a bar appears at the top of the page. Hold Shift and move your mouse over any element — XPath Scout instantly writes an XPath query for it and highlights every matching node on the page, with a live match count and the extracted text in the results panel. Features • Generate an XPath for any element by hovering with Shift held down. • Edit the query by hand and watch matches update in real time. • "Minimal XPath" mode produces the shortest unique query. • "Select Similar" finds all sibling elements of the same kind. • "Find Wrapping Container" locates the common parent of repeated items — perfect for building list/table scrapers. • Ignore noisy CSS classes so generated queries stay stable. • Move the bar between the top and bottom of the page, or close it with one click. Privacy XPath Scout runs entirely in your browser. It does not collect, store, or transmit any data, and it contacts no external servers. There is no analytics and no tracking. Shortcuts • Ctrl+Shift+X (Cmd+Shift+X on macOS): toggle the bar. • Hold Shift and hover: generate a query for the element under the cursor. XPath Scout is based on the open‑source Google "XPath Helper" project and is distributed under the Apache License 2.0.
