ThumbSkript works on the YouTube homepage, search results, channel pages, Shorts, and the inline preview player. --- WHAT’S NEW IN 0.1.7 --- 🛠 Smarter caption selection • Automatic English selection: When no preferred language is set, ThumbSkript selects available English captions without opening the language menu. • Manual captions first: Manually created captions take priority over auto-generated captions across regional variants such as en, en-US, en-CA, and en-GB. • Remembered choices: Selecting a language from the menu saves your preference for future videos and browsing sessions. • Regional preferences preserved: Settings retain specific language codes such as en-CA. • Improved caption parsing: Better support for variations in YouTube caption names and auto-generated track identifiers. 🔧 Chrome history fix • ThumbSkript’s session history now uses its own extension page, preserving Chrome’s native browsing history and preventing the missing-history-item error caused by the collision. --- HOW IT WORKS • Hover: 📋 Transcript and ✨ AI Summary buttons appear on thumbnails and in the preview player. • Click: ThumbSkript retrieves available captions and can generate a local AI summary when supported. • Paste: Copy the result into your notes, documents, or favorite app. KEY FEATURES • One-click transcripts: Copy captions with optional [MM:SS] timestamps. • Preferred language: Save your preferred transcript language in the popup. A matching track is selected automatically; otherwise, ThumbSkript may offer a language menu. • Local AI summaries: When Chrome’s Prompt API is available and ready, generate concise summaries on your device without API keys. • Session history: Reopen recent transcripts and summaries from the popup to copy or export them. • Convenient controls: Configure button visibility, timestamps, and AI summaries. Repeated requests use cached results. PRIVACY AND LIMITATIONS • On-device AI: Summaries are generated locally using Chrome’s built-in AI when available. Transcript content is not sent to an external AI service. • YouTube captions: Transcripts are retrieved from YouTube. Videos without accessible captions and some live streams are not supported. YouTube access restrictions may apply. • AI availability: Summaries require a compatible Chrome environment and an available on-device model. • Session storage: Generated transcripts and summaries are stored for the current browser session and cleared when the browser closes or the extension is reloaded. • Saved preferences: Settings, including your selected transcript language, are saved in browser storage and may sync through your Chrome account.
