Overview

Use Floating Notes as an online notepad: sticky notes on any webpage, desktop notes above other apps, works offline.

Floating Notes turns any web page into an online notepad. These are sticky notes that live on the page itself: write a thought where it belongs, keep it there, and find it again months later without digging through tabs. This is a sticky notes chrome extension and a notepad online at the same time. Open one over the page you are reading, keep a checklist for a whole website, or lift it into a floating window that stays above other apps while you work. Most notes online ask you to sign up and keep your text on their server. Here the note taking app is the browser you already have. 🚀 Quick start 1. Add the notepad chrome extension to Chrome 2. Open any website and click the icon 3. Start typing, your text saves as you go 4. Press Alt+Shift+N to open one without touching the mouse 5. Select text on a page, right click, and save it together with its source link 📌 What people do with it every day 1️⃣ Pin one to a single page for reminders, questions and checklists 2️⃣ Keep one list across a whole website while comparing prices or reading docs 3️⃣ Stack several quick notes in one place and use them as a scratchpad 4️⃣ Keep desktop sticky notes floating above other apps while you work 5️⃣ Save a quote from an article together with a link back to where it came from 6️⃣ Run a to do list chrome extension workflow with checkboxes inside it 7️⃣ Search everything by text, by website or by page address 8️⃣ Minimise it when you need the screen, expand it when you need the text ✂️ Save what you are reading Select any text on a page and send it there from the context menu. Unlike a plain web highlighter, it keeps your quote and adds a link to the page, signed with the page title, so a week later you still know where the idea came from. Research stops turning into forty open tabs. A chrome highlighter marks the page and loses it when the page changes. A highlighter chrome extension of this kind keeps the text instead. As an annotation tool it leaves the page untouched: you annotate web page content, not the page. 🖋️ A real editor, not a text box ❖ Bold, italic, underline and strikethrough with the usual shortcuts ❖ Bulleted and numbered lists, typed as you would type them anywhere ❖ Checkboxes, so a checklist chrome extension is one thing less to install ❖ Links you can add, edit and open with Ctrl+K, no separate note taking extension needed ❖ Paste from anywhere, formatting is cleaned up but kept readable 📍 Where a note lives is your choice - Page: one exact address, for a single article or task - Site: the whole website, so it follows you across its pages - Desktop: a floating window that is not tied to any page, closer to a notepad widget - Custom rules with Pro: one card across a set of addresses you describe yourself 🖥️ Works on Windows and Mac The web notepad runs inside desktop Chrome, so notes for chrome behave the same on both. This browser notepad keeps that window above everything else while Chrome runs in the background, which a desktop notepad cannot do for web pages. 🔐 Offline and private Note content stays on your device and is never uploaded. You can read and edit what you saved without a connection, which makes it a real offline notepad on a plane or a bad hotel network. No account is required to use it as a simple sticky notes app, and there are no ads anywhere in it. 💎 Free and Pro Everything above works at no cost. Pro is optional and adds Google Drive sync into your own Drive folder, notes up to 100,000 characters instead of 5,000, custom address rules, Markdown export and JSON import. An account exists only for paid features and stores your email address, never your notes. ❓ FAQ Q: Can I use it as a free online notepad without signing up A: Yes, this sticky notepad works with no account at all, and your text stays in your browser Q: Is this a notepad for chrome or a separate site A: A notepad for chrome, installed once, available on every page Q: Is it free of charge A: Everything above costs nothing, Pro adds sync and larger notes Q: Does it work as a notepad offline A: Yes, saved text opens and edits without a connection, only Drive sync needs the internet Q: Where are my notes stored A: Locally in your browser, and with Pro also in a folder inside your own Google Drive Q: Are there ads A: None, and there never were Q: Can I keep a note on top of other windows A: Yes, open it as a floating window, Chrome needs to stay running Q: Can I create several notes on one page A: Yes, they form a stack and the extension icon flips through it Q: Will I lose text if I close the tab A: No, everything saves locally, closing a tab does not delete anything Q: Does it slow the browser down A: No, the note extension only runs when you interact with it, idle pages cost nothing Install Floating Notes from the Chrome Web Store and keep your thinking next to the page it belongs to, not in online notes somewhere else.
