Overview

See what the Qcheck books checkup found, on the exact QuickBooks screen where you fix it. Reads only; never types into your books.

Qcheck reads a United States small business's QuickBooks Online file and reports what is wrong: money counted twice, deposits that never landed, bills that look unpaid, a sub paid $2,000 or more with no W-9, and the rest of the dozen ways books quietly go wrong. This extension brings that report inside QuickBooks. A small mark sits at the edge of every QuickBooks screen with the number of things still open; drag it anywhere, or move it with the arrow keys. The same number sits on the toolbar icon. On the Watch, open a bill, an invoice, an expense or a customer that the last check flagged and a card appears beside the mark: what is wrong, in one line, and three buttons: Fixed it, Not a problem, Later. You decide on the spot and your Qcheck page keeps the decision. Press "How to fix it" for the exact steps for that record, the record's own values ready to copy, and a "Show me" that lights up the field a step is talking about. The steps then stay with you. Fixing something usually means leaving the record — the steps send you to Reconcile, or to the chart of accounts — so the finding you are working on comes along: a small panel beside the mark saying where you left off, which step you are on, the way back to the record, and the menu path to it in case the link does not land where you expect. It ends when you finish it, when you decide it, or when you press "Put it down", which decides nothing and leaves the finding on your list. Every morning, on the Watch, the brief. Press the mark and the first thing you read is when the check ran ("Checked last night, 3:02 am"), what is at stake and how long the open work takes ("$23,297 at stake across 7 findings. About 25 minutes to clear."), the health of your books in one line, and when the next check comes. Then what changed overnight: anything new since the last check is at the top, tagged New; anything the last check confirmed gone is at the bottom with a check mark, so a thing you marked Fixed it is seen to stay fixed. The mark turns red when anything still open is critical. On the Watch, press "Check again now" and the books are checked again while you wait, two to four minutes; the free checkup runs once, so on the free plan that button points at the Watch instead. Click the toolbar icon and it tells you plainly where things stand: which company is linked, the dollars at stake, how many findings are open, what changed overnight, when the checkup ran and when the next one comes, the state of your trial or subscription with a link to manage it, and buttons to your Qcheck page and to check again now. If nothing is linked yet, if the connection is down, or if your link has expired, it says so. Alt+Shift+Q shows or hides the list inside QuickBooks. What it reads: the address bar of the QuickBooks page, to know which record is open, and the page's labels when you press Show me, to find the field. It never reads what you type, never scrapes the page, and never changes anything in your books. You do the fixing, with the steps. You need a Qcheck report first; the free checkup at getqcheck.com takes two to four minutes. Open your private Qcheck page once in Chrome and the extension links itself; nothing to paste, and the page walks you through it in three steps and then says "connected" when it has happened. The extension is free to install, and without the Qcheck Watch it sits on every QuickBooks screen with the count of what is open on your books and one press to turn the Watch on. The Watch, $19 a month after 5 free days, is what puts your findings on the records themselves: whatever the last check found is marked on the QuickBooks screen it belongs to, with the fix beside the field, redrawn after every check. It also checks the books as often as you ask, up to every night, reads every finding a second time and weighs it against how the business works, chases missing W-9s and receipts, and tells you what changed since the check before. Your findings are on your own Qcheck page either way: the free checkup lists every one of them with what it is worth and why it matters, and writes out the fix for the three biggest. Qcheck checks United States QuickBooks Online books only: the checks are written for US report names, sales tax handling and account types, and a company set up in another country is refused at the start of the checkup, with nothing changed and nothing saved. That is about whose books Qcheck can check. The extension itself draws the mark on whichever QuickBooks Online host Intuit serves you from, including the sandbox, which is a different thing and is not a promise that the checks work outside the United States. Every button works from the keyboard, and it respects your reduced-motion setting. Independent software. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Intuit Inc. QuickBooks is a trademark of Intuit Inc.
