Drowzy - Tab Suspender & Memory Saver
Overview
Puts tabs you are not using to sleep so Chrome stays fast. Light, private, no tracking, open source.
Too many tabs dragging Chrome down? Drowzy is a lightweight Chrome tab suspender and memory saver that puts unused tabs to sleep, so Chrome stays faster when you keep a lot of tabs open. Unlike older tab suspenders, Drowzy uses Chrome's built-in system for freeing tabs from memory. Your tabs are not replaced with custom suspended pages or chrome-extension:// URLs. They stay as normal Chrome tabs, and if you uninstall Drowzy, your tabs are still there. ▸ HOW IT WORKS • Tabs you haven't touched for 15 minutes go to sleep automatically by default. The timer goes from 1 minute to 4 hours, or you can turn it off and suspend tabs by hand. • Sleeping tabs stop using memory but stay right in your tab bar, with their title and icon. • Click a sleeping tab and Chrome reloads it in place. ▸ DROWZY VS CHROME MEMORY SAVER Chrome's built-in Memory Saver works automatically in the background. Drowzy gives you more control: your own timer, manual suspend and wake buttons, a whitelist, per-tab Keep this tab awake, sessions, stats, and clear reasons when a tab will not sleep. You can use both. Drowzy does not turn Chrome Memory Saver off. ▸ PROTECTED TABS Protected by default, and each protection is a switch you control: • The tab you're using • Pinned tabs • Tabs playing audio • Tabs with unsaved form input, if form protection is enabled • Any site on your whitelist • Any tab you mark with Keep this tab awake ▸ FEATURES • One-click Suspend Others, Suspend this tab, and Wake All • Drowzy tells you why a tab will not sleep and links to the setting that would change it • Keep this tab awake holds one tab awake without whitelisting the whole site • A whitelist that accepts full addresses or patterns like site.com/docs/*, with import and export • Save and restore whole windows of tabs as named sessions, with a JSON export for backup • Popup and Chrome side panel, with tab search • Close duplicate tabs in one click • Keyboard shortcuts for suspend, suspend others, and wake all, changeable on Chrome's shortcuts page • Right-click menu for quick suspend and whitelist actions • Stats for how many tabs have slept today and all time, with an estimate of memory saved • Dark and light themes • Settings that sync across your Chrome profile • Available in 50+ languages, with right-to-left support ▸ PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No data collection and no tracking • No accounts, no analytics, no external servers • Everything stays on your device, in Chrome's own storage • Fully open source, so anyone can check exactly what it does Free, open source, and easy to use. Add Drowzy to Chrome and let your tabs rest.
