Tab Suspender Pro - Auto-Suspend Inactive Tabs
Overview
Auto-suspend inactive tabs to save memory. Smart protection for audio, video calls, and forms. Keyboard shortcuts included.
Tab Suspender Pro puts tabs you haven't used in a while to sleep, so Chrome keeps the memory for the tabs you're working in. Nothing closes. Click a sleeping tab and it comes back where you left it. KEY FEATURES • Auto-suspend on a timer. Pick 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Pro members set any time from 1 to 120 minutes. • Smart protection. The tab you're using, pinned tabs, tabs playing audio and tabs with unsaved form input are never suspended. • Whitelist. Keep mail, chat or music sites always awake. Free covers 5 domains, Pro has no limit. • One click or one key. Suspend the current tab, suspend every other tab or restore all from the popup, the right-click menu or a shortcut. • Recovery list. From 1.0.37 on, every tab the extension puts to sleep is written to a local recovery list first, so you can reopen it after a crash or a restart. Reopen any of them from Settings > Recovery. • Stats page, dark mode and 55 languages. WHAT'S NEW IN 1.0.37 • Scroll position is restored when a tab wakes up. • The Back button never lands on the suspended page. • Optional native mode uses Chrome's own discard. The tab keeps its title and icon and uses no memory until you click it. • Pause for 1 hour, 8 hours or until tomorrow when you need every tab live. • Protect one tab for this session without adding a whitelist rule. • Only suspend when more than a number of tabs you choose are open. • Timers keep working with 500 or more tabs. • A Recovery list in Settings keeps every tab that went to sleep from 1.0.37 on, so you can reopen it after a crash or a restart. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install it. The default timer is 30 minutes and the protection rules are on. 2. A tab you haven't looked at for that long goes to sleep. The badge shows how many tabs are sleeping. 3. Click the tab to wake it. Back, scroll position and the address bar behave as if it had never slept. 4. Change the timer, the whitelist and the mode in Settings. PRO A Zovo membership turns on a custom timer from 1 to 120 minutes, an unlimited whitelist, and URL wildcard patterns such as https://docs.google.com/* that keep whole paths awake. One membership covers 15 Zovo extensions. Everything else on this page, including every new 1.0.37 feature, is free and stays free. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS No analytics, no tracking, no data collection. Your browsing stays in your browser. The only time the extension talks to a server is when you enter a Pro key, to check that the key is valid, and if you type your email into the upgrade form, that one form. The listed permissions are the minimum for the job. Storage keeps your settings and the recovery list, tabs lets it see which tab is idle and put it to sleep, contextMenus adds the right-click entries, and alarms runs the timers. There are no host permissions. A small content script runs on pages only to report activity, scroll position and whether a form has unsaved input, and it doesn't read or send page content. Needs Chrome 111 or newer. After some updates, Tab Suspender Pro opens a short What's new tab in the background. You can turn it off in Settings under Updates. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS Alt+S suspends the current tab. Alt+Shift+S suspends all other tabs. Alt+R restores every tab. Alt+W whitelists the current site. Change any of them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
