Blur for WhatsApp Web

)Overview
Blurs names, messages, photos and unread counts in your WhatsApp Web chat list. Hover a row to reveal it.
Anyone walking past your desk can read your entire WhatsApp chat list — who messages you, what they said, and how often. Screen sharing on a call exposes the same thing to everyone watching. Blur for WhatsApp Web blurs the chat list so that doesn't happen. Rest your mouse on a row and it becomes readable again. CHOOSE WHAT TO HIDE • Last message — including read receipts, attachment icons and emoji • Contact and group names • Profile photos, group icons and initial avatars • Unread message badges • Timestamps • Messages in the open chat Each one is a separate switch, so you can blur only what matters to you. Blur strength is adjustable from 1 to 8 pixels. ONE KEY TO TOGGLE Press Alt+Shift+B to switch the blur on or off without opening the popup — handy right before you share your screen. You can change the key in your browser's extension shortcut settings. HOVER TO REVEAL Nothing is hidden from you — only from people looking over your shoulder. Hover any row and it clears after a brief pause — so sweeping the mouse across the list reveals nothing — then blurs again the moment you move away. TELLS YOU IF IT STOPS WORKING WhatsApp Web changes from time to time. If an update ever stops the blur from applying, the toolbar icon shows a warning instead of failing silently. PRIVACY BY DESIGN • No data collection of any kind • No network requests — the extension has no server • No analytics, no telemetry, no ads, no tracking • Cannot read your messages: it only adds a stylesheet • Runs on web.whatsapp.com and nowhere else • Unminified code, no remote code — fully inspectable The extension works by injecting a single CSS stylesheet. It does not read page content and does not modify the page structure. Its background script wakes only for the keyboard shortcut and the "is it still working" check, and makes no network requests. Your settings are the only thing stored, and they stay in your own browser. HOW IT WORKS Rather than blurring individual pieces of text, each rule blurs the container that wraps the information. This covers the whole subtree at once, so nothing slips through — reaction text, attachment labels and emoji are all covered — and it keeps working when WhatsApp changes the markup inside. --- Independent project.
