Rub Out: Selective History Cleaner
1 rating
)Overview
Delete specific sites, keywords, or NSFW entries from your Chrome history. Keep everything else.
Selective memory for your browser. Chrome only clears history in bulk: last hour, last day, all of it. Rub Out lets you pick exactly what goes. FORGET having to clear your history ever again. With the “Auto Delete” feature enabled, Rub Out will clean all new history as it rolls in, while you relax surfing the web. With Rub Out you can remove a certain website domain, or remove every page that matches a keyword(s), or even everything on the included blacklist of adult and inappropriate sites (plus your own custom additions) - all while keeping the rest of your history safe. HOW IT WORKS 1. Pick a time frame: last hour, day, week, 4 weeks, or all time. 2. Pick a filter: a single site, blacklisted sites, blacklisted terms, or all history. 3. Click Find to preview the matching entries, then Remove. Or click Find & Remove to do it in one step. 4. Turn on “Auto Delete” mode, and never need to remember to clear history again. USE CASES • Remove a job board or a competitor's site from a work machine. • Hide gift shopping, medical searches, or a surprise trip on a shared computer. • Clean a single keyword out of years of history in one pass. • Clear NSFW sites from history before handing someone your laptop. FEATURES • Auto Delete: runs in the background cleaning your history so you can fuhgeddaboudit! • Auto Delete shows a badge on your extension icon, counting how many entries it’s deleted since you last opened the extension. • Undo restores the last batch of removed URLs, even URLs removed in the background from Auto Delete. • Built-in blacklist of adult, NSFW, profane words, phrases, and domains. Works out of the box. • Additional layer of detection using pattern text matching methods to catch sites no list has heard of. • Custom blacklist: add your own sites and terms. • Whitelist: protect sites and terms so they are never removed by you or by Auto Delete. • Delete history by keyword: matches page titles and URLs. • Delete a specific website from history: type a domain and remove every visit to it. • Privacy PIN: Set a custom pin on the whole extension so casual prying eyes can’t peek in on your lists. • Deep Clean: wipe a found site's domain entire history throughout time, whatever time frame is selected. • Chrome Sync: White/Blacklists sync across your devices from your Chrome profile. • Preview before deleting, with per-entry remove and paging for large result sets. • Handles huge histories with a background worker and a progress bar. • Dark and light mode. PRIVACY Rub Out is free, has no ads, and collects no data. It requests only the history, storage, and “alarms” timer (for the Auto Delete) permissions, and everything runs locally in your browser. Your data stays exclusively on your device and within your Chrome sync account. PERMISSIONS USED - History: Required to read and remove browsing history entries - Storage: Required to save user preferences and filter lists - Alarms: Required to schedule the short delayed re-check Auto Delete uses once Chrome has stored a page title ZERO THIRD-PARTY SERVICES This extension does not communicate with any third-party services or external servers. Fonts and blocklists are bundled with the extension; no network requests are made. Tip: if a removed URL still appears as an omnibox suggestion, select it and press Shift+Delete (Fn+Shift+Delete on Mac). Enjoy, and surf responsibly! (or don’t, this will help)
