Overview

Save, organize, and reopen browser tabs in groups with optional GitHub Gist sync.

TabBoard is a local-first browser extension for saving, organizing, and reopening tabs in groups. It includes a popup for quick capture, a Kanban-style storage view for managing saved tabs, a global command palette, and optional manual sync through GitHub Gist. Key Features - Quick tab saving — One-click popup to save the current tab or all open tabs into selected groups; supports saving to multiple groups at once. Edit the title before saving, or use Close & save. - Command palette — Open from any website (Ctrl/Cmd+K by default) to fuzzy-search saved tabs by alias, title, or URL. Enter opens a tab (or focuses it if already open). Type > to search currently open tabs, or / to run commands (open Tab Board, Options, Gist sync, keyboard shortcuts). Recently saved tabs appear when the query is empty. Ctrl+Shift+C copies a URL; Ctrl+Shift+Enter opens in Incognito. - Quick-save from the page — Right-click a page and choose Save to Tab Board. Same target order as the popup: Smart rules, then save-history suggestion, then default groups. - Smart rules — Per-group domain or regex patterns auto-select matching groups when you save. Multiple groups can match; rules sync with Gist like other group data. - Save history suggestions — Optional setting that learns where you usually save each hostname and offers Often saved to… in the popup (never overrides Smart rules or default groups). - Ignore list & duplicates — Skip junk pages (chrome://, extension pages, new tab, and custom prefixes or /regex/). Optionally skip URLs already saved in a group, with Skip or Save anyway. - Drag-and-drop Kanban board — Manage tabs in columns; drag to reorder groups or move tabs between them. Pin groups to keep them at the top. Move a tab or group to a specific position from the context menu. - Smart tab reopening — Open one tab, a whole group, a random tab from the same group (Pick one), or open in Incognito. - Search — Search by alias, title, or URL; shortcuts Ctrl+/ and Ctrl+G; results are highlighted and auto-scrolled. Tab aliases appear as chips on cards and in the palette. - YouTube thumbnails — Saved YouTube tabs show a video thumbnail on Kanban cards instead of only the favicon. - Import/Export — Export JSON backups; import from JSON or browser bookmarks HTML; automatically merges duplicate groups and removes duplicate URLs. Create a group from a bookmark folder. - Undo delete — Every delete action comes with an Undo button in a toast notification. - Themes — Follows the browser/OS light or dark theme, plus 13 color palettes (Nord, Catppuccin, Dracula, Tokyo Night, and more) applied across popup, storage, and options. - GitHub Gist sync (optional) — Manual two-way sync via a secret Gist; smart merging and conflict detection. Privacy - Local storage — All data is stored in chrome.storage.local and never sent anywhere unless you enable Gist sync - No analytics, no tracking — No telemetry, no pixels, no remote server calls for core features - No account required — Core features work instantly, no signup, no cloud - Gist sync is fully optional — Disabled by default; you enable it, provide a gist-scoped token, and data is stored in a secret (private) Gist - Extension permissions — tabs (read/switch/close tabs), storage (local data), bookmarks (import folders), and contextMenus (page quick-save); plus host_permissions for the GitHub API used only in sync
