Tab Notes

Notes, highlights and to-dos for the pages you visit. They come back when you return. Stored only in your browser.

Tab Notes keeps a note for every web page you visit. Click the toolbar button on any page and type. When you come back to that page, your note is there, and the note mark on the toolbar button shows which pages have one. Your notes stay in your browser. There is no account and no sign-up. NEW IN 2.0 • Side panel: keep your note open while you browse. It follows the tab you're on. • Highlights: mark text on a page. It's highlighted again when you come back. • To-dos and reminders: add checklists to notes, see every open to-do in one list, and get reminded about a page later. • Notes that find their page: a note can show on one exact link, a whole page, or a whole site. • Safer by design: Tab Notes backs up your notes before each update, deleted notes go to Trash, imports can be undone, and pinned notes are kept apart from the page so websites can't read what you type. WRITE ON ANY PAGE • A note per page, saved as you type. "Saved" means it's stored. • Bold, italic, lists, checklists, quotes and links, with keyboard shortcuts. • Tags and colored collections. • Pin a note to the page and keep it there for every visit. • Right-click to add a quote, a link or the whole page to the page's note. • Search your notes from the address bar: type tn and a space. ALL YOUR NOTES IN ONE PLACE • Search titles, addresses, text, tags and collections. • Filter by collection and tag, sort by created or edited date. • To-dos, due reminders, Trash and Conflicts views. • Page titles and site icons on every card. KEEP YOUR NOTES SAFE • One-click backup file (.json), plus Markdown export for Obsidian, Notion and other apps. • Import a backup with a preview; nothing is overwritten and you can undo it. • Snapshots before every update and weekly, with Download and Restore. • Trash with Undo; nothing is deleted without a safety copy. • When a note is edited in two places at once, both versions are kept. PERMISSIONS Tab Notes shows notes, highlights and pinned notes on the pages you visit, so Chrome asks for access to all websites ("Read and change all your data on all websites"). Tab Notes uses that access only on your device to match notes to pages and to show what you asked for. 2.0 adds no new permission request. Desktop notifications for reminders are optional and asked for only when you click "Allow notifications".
