XTOC: Navigate & Clip X Articles
Overview
Navigate long X articles with a table of contents, and save posts, articles and passages to a local library you can export.
Long X/Twitter articles are easier to follow when their structure stays visible, and worth keeping when you find them. Open a long-form article and its table of contents is already there: a quiet module in X's right column that looks like part of X. XTOC also keeps the posts, articles and passages you save in a local library. Read • Contents appear on their own: open a long-form article and its sections show at the top of X's right column, with nothing to click or pin • Looks like part of X: the module uses X's own module style, follows your Default or Lights out theme, and takes X's font and the accent color you chose • Stays out of the way: muted text, one line per heading, and only the current section highlighted. It never covers the article and stays in view while you read • Jump to any section and follow your current section as you scroll • Collapse it to one line, hide it on articles from its menu (turn it back on from the toolbar popup or Settings), or pop it out as a floating panel you can move and resize • In X's Focus mode, the contents sit in the space beside the article Save • Select a passage and click "save to xtoc" to keep it with its source and surrounding context • Save the post or article you are reading from the toolbar button • Import your X bookmarks from X's Bookmarks page in one click; XTOC only reads what the page loads and never changes your X bookmarks Organize and export • Library with two views: Clips and Bookmarks • Search, filter by tag, add tags and notes, select and delete • Export as Obsidian-style Markdown (one note per post or article, with properties, tags and quoted clips), or export clips as JSON Optional AI (off by default) • Suggest up to three tags and a short summary for a bookmark using your own provider API key • Runs only when you click it. Only that bookmark's saved text and your existing tag names are sent, directly to the provider you choose; your notes are never sent. Nothing changes until you apply the suggestion • The key is kept for the browser session, or, if you choose, encrypted on this device. It is never synced or exported Privacy Clips, bookmarks, tags, notes and settings are stored locally in your browser. XTOC has no account, no telemetry and no cloud storage. Exports are created only when you request them. Works on x.com and twitter.com. The table of contents depends on headings being present in the article. It appears on its own for articles with at least two sections when X shows its right column, or in Focus mode when there is room beside the article; otherwise open it from the toolbar. Bookmark import saves the text X shows in the list, which may be a preview of a long post. XTOC is an independent extension and is not affiliated with X Corp.
