Understand Japanese vocabulary and remember it in context. Hachidori is a Japanese dictionary and vocabulary-study extension. Look up words while reading Japanese, then optionally save them with their original sentence and study material as Anki flashcards. Japanese dictionary lookups Look up Japanese text on supported web pages to see dictionary definitions and readings. Import your own Yomitan-format dictionaries, or use the first-run setup to download starter dictionaries. Customize your reading preferences and add personal dictionary entries for words or names you encounter. Create Anki flashcards Save vocabulary, definitions and sentence context to your configured Anki deck. Anki integration requires Anki with AnkiConnect, either directly or through a configured Hachidori sharing host. Dictionary lookup can be used without Anki. Optional images and recordings for your study cards When configured, Hachidori can attach a screenshot of the reading page when you save an Anki note. Optional media capture can also attach sentence audio and a short animated clip from the material you are studying. You select the source tab, application window or screen through Chrome’s sharing dialog. These features preserve context for Japanese vocabulary flashcards. Continuous recording is off by default and requires you to start capture and choose a source. While active, it maintains temporary local capture history. Closing the capture controls does not stop recording; use Stop capture to end the session and clear that history. Saved study clips are sent to your configured Anki integration. Manage your study setup Manage dictionaries and preferences, export local backups, and optionally connect other Hachidori installations through its sharing feature. Standalone dictionary lookup runs locally in your browser. Optional dictionary downloads, pronunciation providers, Anki connections and sharing communicate with their configured services.
