ListenDub reads a video's subtitles out loud, in your language, in time with the picture — on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Udemy, Bilibili and other video sites. On the free tier, normal playback runs in your own browser and does not use a ListenDub server. You watch the screen. You do not read a subtitle line. WHAT IT DOES • Speaks the subtitle track aloud while the video plays, kept in sync with what is on screen. • On YouTube, dubs the video using the translated subtitle track the player already provides; on other sites, the subtitle lines the page shows are translated. Nothing else about the page is uploaded. • One button to start, inside the player's own control bar. Voice and account settings live in the toolbar popup. • Pick your language and voice in the popup. 45 languages. Free. FREE — NO LIMIT, NO ACCOUNT The free tier is not a trial. There is no daily video cap and no sign-up. The site's own player supplies the translated subtitles and Microsoft's speech service produces the audio, so ListenDub's own server takes no part in normal free playback. MEMBERSHIP Members get language-model rewrites of subtitle lines whenever a rewrite is ready in time for playback, so those lines sound like a person wrote them rather than machine translation read aloud. Members also get server-side speech recognition for videos with no subtitles. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO YET • Live streams are not handled. PRIVACY On the free tier, YouTube's own player fetches the translated subtitle track. On Facebook the extension fetches the subtitle file itself, because Facebook serves it from a host that blocks page scripts; that request carries no cookies and asks only for a .srt or .vtt file. On TikTok the translation is done by TikTok's own service, in a same-origin request that carries your TikTok login cookies. ListenDub sends subtitle text and your chosen voice to Microsoft's speech service to be turned into audio; those requests carry no account and no video address. For a video with no subtitles, members get it transcribed: short audio segments go through ListenDub's server to a speech-recognition provider, and that can be switched off in the popup. On the free tier such a video stays silent, and no audio is sent anywhere. ListenDub never uploads the video file or the page's HTML.
