YouTube Study Mode

Helps users focus on educational content by filtering distractions on YouTube.

As an essential study tool and daily productivity booster, YouTube Study Mode acts as a targeted YouTube blocker for entertainment. When Study Mode is active, it creates a completely distraction-free learning environment by hiding unrelated content and blocking watch pages that are not on your approved channel list. The list and the on/off toggle stay locally in chrome.storage.local on your computer. There is no account and no developer server. What it does • Channel Allowlist: Add channels directly from a YouTube watch or channel page (“Add to Study Mode”), or import a JSON list to customize your study tool. • Disable recommendations: Automatically hides the related videos column on allowlisted watch pages so you stay focused on the lesson. • Hide Shorts: Removes short-form video feeds that disrupt deep work and study sessions. • Auto-pause & Blur: On any watch page not on your list, playback triggers an auto-pause and blurs the player with an overlay telling you the channel is off-topic. • Fast toggle: Turn Study Mode on or off right from the popup to switch between casual browsing and focused productivity. What it does not do • It does not block ads. • It does not blank Home or Search. Those pages stay normal YouTube. • It does not run on YouTube Music. How to use 1. Pin the extension and open the popup. 2. Add the educational channels you actually want to watch for a distraction-free study session. 3. Enable Study Mode to lock in your focus. 4. Export your list anytime if you want a backup. Import opens a local page that merges a JSON file into your list. Permissions (as declared) • storage — save the channel list and the Study Mode toggle locally. • tabs — open a channel or the import page, and tell the active YouTube tab that the toggle changed.
