Click the extension icon and Canopy Reader opens in a new tab. It never replaces your browser's new tab page. ────────────────────────── FOUR WAYS TO READ ────────────────────────── Switch layouts instantly with one click or the number keys. - Split — classic three-panel view with feeds, articles, and a wide reading pane - Headlines — dense, title-only rows for scanning hundreds of items fast - Newspaper — two text columns, no images, like reading a front page - Magazine — image-forward card grid for visual browsing Your choice is remembered between sessions. ────────────────────────── READING ────────────────────────── - Unified "All Articles" view across every feed - Full-text search across everything you've collected, with matches highlighted - Load full article — pulls the complete text from the original page when a feed only gives you a summary - Listen to any article read aloud using your browser's built-in speech engine - Mark articles read or unread, individually or in bulk - Save articles for later in a dedicated Saved list - Tag articles and browse by tag - Filter between All and Unread - Click a folder to read everything inside it together ────────────────────────── FOLLOWING SOURCES ────────────────────────── - RSS 2.0 and Atom 1.0 - Paste any website URL — Canopy Reader finds its feed automatically - YouTube channels and playlists — paste the channel URL, get the videos as a feed - Google News searches — follow any keyword or topic - Subreddits — paste a subreddit URL - Track pages without RSS — watch a pricing page, changelog, or any URL and get an entry when it changes - Browse a built-in catalog of curated feeds across news, tech, science, design, and more - Organize everything into folders, with unread counts rolled up per folder - Import from Feedly, Inoreader, or any other reader via OPML - Export your feed list as OPML anytime ────────────────────────── FILTERS AND RULES ────────────────────────── Cut the noise automatically. Build rules like "if the title contains sponsored, hide it" or "if the author is X, add a tag." - Match on title, content, author, or anywhere - Conditions: contains, does not contain, starts with, or a regular expression - Actions: hide, mark as read, save for later, or add a tag - Apply to one feed or all of them - Toggle any rule on or off Rules run on new articles as they arrive. ────────────────────────── KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS ────────────────────────── J and K — next and previous article 1 to 4 — switch between view modes O — open the original article S — save for later T — add a tag L — listen to the article M — mark all read U — toggle read and unread R — refresh all feeds A — add a feed / — jump to search F — toggle the unread filter Esc — back to the list ? — see the full list ────────────────────────── PRIVACY ────────────────────────── Canopy Reader stores everything locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage. Your feed list, articles, read state, tags, and settings never leave your device. There are no servers, no analytics, no advertising, and no data collection of any kind. The only network requests Canopy Reader makes are to fetch the feeds and pages you explicitly add. Note on permissions: Canopy Reader asks for access to all sites because feed URLs can point anywhere and can't be known in advance. If you'd rather narrow that, you can restrict site access in the extension's own settings in Chrome — right-click the icon, choose "This can read and change site data," and pick only the domains you follow. ────────────────────────── MORE ────────────────────────── - Light, dark, and system-default themes - Custom CSS if you want to restyle the reader yourself - Optional desktop notifications when new articles arrive, off by default - Auto-refresh in the background at an interval you choose - Works offline — everything you've already fetched stays available ────────────────────────── FREE, NO STRINGS ────────────────────────── Canopy Reader is completely free. No paid tier, no premium plan, no upsells, no account. If you find it useful, there's an optional link in Settings to support development — but everything is and stays free either way.
