Longshot — full page screenshot

Capture a whole page as one image, with sticky headers appearing once and lazy-loaded pictures actually loaded. Nothing is uploaded.

Longshot saves an entire web page as a single image — the part on screen and everything below it — without scrolling, without stitching anything by hand, and without sending the page anywhere. The three things that go wrong with full-page captures are the three things this was built around. STICKY HEADERS APPEAR ONCE A navigation bar pinned to the top of the window sits in every screen a capture tool photographs, so it ends up repeated down the saved file, once per screen. Longshot hides anything pinned or sticky while it works and puts it back the moment it is finished, so the bar appears exactly once, where it belongs. PICTURES ARE LOADED BEFORE THE CAPTURE STARTS Most pages only load their images when you scroll near them. Capture such a page immediately and half of it is blank. Longshot walks the whole page once first, gives everything a chance to load, then returns to the top and starts. VERY LONG PAGES COME OUT AS AN IMAGE, NOT A BLANK ONE Past a certain size browsers quietly refuse to build an image and hand back an empty one instead. Longshot works out the largest size the browser will actually accept and scales the capture to fit, so a very long page produces a real picture rather than nothing. HOW IT WORKS Click the button. Longshot measures the page, takes what it needs, joins the pieces and saves a PNG named after the page and today's date. A small note in the corner shows progress and disappears when the file is saved. It is hidden from the capture itself, so it never lands in your image. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO No account, no sign-in, no upload, no server. The page is photographed by your own browser and joined together inside the tab you are looking at — the finished image is created on your machine and saved to your machine. Nothing about the page, and nothing about you, is sent anywhere, because there is nowhere for it to be sent. There is no paid tier, no watermark and no limit on how many captures you take. Longshot asks for the two narrowest permissions that make this possible: the ability to act on the tab you are looking at, only after you click the button, and the ability to run its own code in that tab. It never asks for access to a site until you point it at one. One note on where it cannot run: Chrome forbids extensions on its own internal pages and on the Chrome Web Store. On those, Longshot will tell you rather than fail silently.
