Locally adds an invisible OCR text layer to scanned PDFs.

Make PDF Searchable adds an invisible English text layer to scanned and hybrid PDFs so you can search and select recognized text in the downloaded result. Your PDF is processed on your device. No account or document upload is needed, and conversion works offline. The extension has no analytics, advertising or tracking. HOW TO USE 1. Click the extension icon to open its page. 2. Choose a PDF or drop it into the file area. 3. Wait for processing, or use Cancel to stop. 4. Read the result and any warnings, then download your PDF. 5. Open the downloaded PDF and check the recognized text before relying on it. WHAT TO EXPECT Scanned pages receive searchable text. On hybrid pages, existing digital text is kept while recognized image text is added outside its text regions. The extension checks the saved text and compares the page appearance before offering a result. IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS Printed English OCR only. Handwriting and other languages are not supported. PDF files only, up to 10 pages and 50 MiB (52,428,800 bytes), with additional processing safety limits. Image text overlapping existing digital text may be missing. Hybrid results carry a review warning. Pages with existing text that cannot be separated safely, including some rotated or slanted text layouts, are kept with a warning instead of adding image text. If no words are recognized, the extension says so. Any offered download is labelled a PDF copy rather than a successful searchable result. Hybrid results are also labelled for review, even when new text was added. Password-protected PDFs and files that appear digitally signed are not processed. OCR accuracy depends on the scan. Review the recognized text; perfect recognition and support for every PDF feature are not guaranteed. Requires Chrome 155 or later. Chrome 155 is the tested support boundary; later versions have not been separately tested. PRIVACY The extension reads only the PDF you explicitly choose, including its name, page images and text. Processing stays on your device; documents and recognized text are not uploaded to the developer or an OCR service. The generated PDF remains available in the open page until you choose another file or close it. The English language model may be cached locally; your documents are not intentionally saved in extension storage. Downloads are managed by your browser and operating system.
