Study Companion by Synlecto brings active study into Chrome’s side panel beside supported Panopto, Kaltura and YouTube lecture videos. When usable captions or transcript text are available, you choose when to create a source-linked guide, recall practice and clear next steps. Your lecture remains open while you study. FROM LECTURE TO ACTIVE STUDY • Guide: begin with Starting points, then move through concepts, comparisons, examples and checks drawn from the lecture source. • Flashcards: practise retrieving key ideas with source-grounded prompts created from your guide. • Missions: work through focused study activities connected to the lecture. • Quiz: check what you understand and identify what to revisit. • Notebook handoff: copy available captions to your clipboard, then paste them into Gemini Notebook using Add sources, Copied text and Insert. Nothing is uploaded to Google automatically. • Studio: capture learner-owned notes, revisit concepts and keep source details together. • Library: search saved guides, focus on recently added work, continue studying or move into recall. • Return to the source: use available timestamps and source evidence to revisit the original explanation. • Listen your way: hear guide text using voices provided by Chrome or your operating system. STUDY BESIDE YOUR LECTURE Open a supported Panopto recording and Study Companion can detect the lecture and place its study route beside the player. Compatible Panopto recordings embedded in a virtual learning environment can also provide a study source. Select the recording you want to study, then return to its available timestamps within the page. Support depends on the player, readable captions and your access to the recording. Kaltura support includes compatible MediaSpace pages and embedded players. University sites use different configurations, so detection and caption access can vary. Custom university domains may ask for access to that specific site. Synlecto does not bypass a university sign-in or restricted recording. Other compatible embedded lecture players may work when the page provides usable media, captions or transcript text. Availability varies by recording and page configuration. LECTURE TO GEMINI NOTEBOOK Choose Create, then Use Gemini Notebook, even when a saved Synlecto guide is already open. Select Copy transcript once. When the copied confirmation appears, select Open Notebook. Create or open a notebook, choose Add sources and Copied text, paste, then select Insert. Once the source loads, choose what to make in Google’s Studio. This manual bridge uses accessible captions, not audio transcription. Caption availability, accuracy and completeness vary. It does not bypass recording access, create notebooks automatically or guarantee source coverage. Check the original lecture and follow your institution’s rules before sharing material with another service. A Google account is required. Try two different lectures as a guest on this installation, then sign in or create a free Synlecto account to continue. Synlecto guide-generation limits are separate. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open a recorded lecture. 2. Open the Synlecto browser extension. 3. Check the detected lecture and choose Create guide. Allow around 5 to 7 minutes for a guide. This is a planning estimate, and some guides take longer. Synlecto prepares concepts, source-supported comparisons and recall material, with checks on source support and available timestamps. These checks do not replace the original lecture or guarantee accuracy. Before step 3, Synlecto shows the detected source and a clear data-use disclosure. You can then study with Guide, Flashcards, Missions, Quiz and Studio, returning to the original lecture whenever you need more context. If a video cannot connect or its captions cannot be read, the panel offers recovery tips: refresh the video tab or use an embedded player’s open link to try the full player in a new tab. Available captions and permission to access the recording are still required. PRIVACY BEFORE PROCESSING You remain in control of when lecture content is processed. • Synlecto does not send lecture transcript or caption text to its servers until you choose Create guide or another clearly labelled cloud action. • When you create a guide, the relevant transcript or captions, source title, source URL and available timing metadata are sent securely over HTTPS. • Account, generated-guide and study-progress data are used to provide sign-in, syncing, security and the study features you request. • Synlecto does not sell extension data. • Synlecto does not use extension data for personalised advertising. • Synlecto does not use user content to train models. • Native read-aloud playback uses Chrome or your operating-system speech engine. Synlecto does not receive spoken audio. An account is required for cloud guide generation and account syncing. A Free plan is available with usage limits. Optional paid plans provide higher limits, with current limits shown inside the product. BUILT FOR STUDY Study Companion supports keyboard navigation, readable layouts, learner choice and reduced-motion preferences. Synlecto provides study support. The original lecture, lecturer and official course materials remain the authority. Platform names describe compatibility.
