Overview

Flags clauses worth noting in a site's Terms of Service or Privacy Policy before you agree. A reading aid, not legal advice.

Almost nobody reads the terms. Surveys put it around one in ten — and of the people who don't read them, most say the same thing: they're too long, and they're written for lawyers. TermsCheck doesn't ask you to read them either. When you're on a signup page for a site it covers, it quietly shows you a short list of clauses worth knowing about, each one with the original wording so you can check it yourself. WHAT IT LOOKS FOR · Your content may be used to train AI models · You give up the right to sue in court (binding arbitration) · You give up the right to join a class action · Your data may be sold or shared with advertisers · The subscription renews automatically · The terms can change without notifying you · They keep a permanent licence to what you upload · They can close your account without a refund · Your data is kept after you delete your account HOW IT WORKS The analysis is prepared in advance and ships inside the extension. When you land on a covered site, TermsCheck looks up an entry it already has — it doesn't send the page, the URL, or anything else to a server. It makes no network requests at all. You can confirm that yourself in your browser's Network panel. Every clause it flags is shown next to a verbatim excerpt from the source document, with a link to the original. TermsCheck points at the text; it doesn't decide for you. WHAT IT ISN'T TermsCheck is a reading aid, not legal advice, and not a substitute for a lawyer. It only covers a curated set of sites — if a site isn't in the database, that means we haven't reviewed it, not that its terms are fine. Terms change, and an entry may be out of date. Analysis is generated by a language model and can be incomplete. PRIVACY No accounts. No tracking. No analytics. No data collected, because there's nothing to collect — the extension never talks to a server. The only thing stored is which notices you've dismissed, kept locally on your device.
