Media Control Shortcuts gives you one consistent set of controls for audio and video across Chrome. ⏯️ Pause, resume the last thing you were playing, seek, change speed, adjust volume, or boost gain — all without switching back to the tab that's actually playing. 🆕 WHAT'S NEW IN 1.4 - ⏱️ Seek step is now adjustable (5–20 seconds) from the new Settings page, instead of a fixed 5 seconds. - 🩹 More reliable Pause All / Resume Last behavior, including alongside X (Twitter) Spaces. ⚙️ HOW IT WORKS Chrome manages the keyboard assignments, so shortcuts can work browser-wide once their scope is set to Global. Open the popup to see Chrome's current assignments live, and jump straight to Chrome's Keyboard Shortcuts page to change them. Shown as "Not set"? It's still available — just assign a key whenever you like. When you press a shortcut, the extension finds the right tab and exact frame, prioritizes whatever's actually playing (or was most recently active), applies the command once, and confirms it worked. You never need to switch to the tab with the player. ✨ MAIN FEATURES - ⏯️ Pause everything playing, then resume exactly the last thing you were watching or listening to. - ⏩⏪ Seek forward or backward — step size is yours to set, 5 to 20 seconds, from the Settings page. - 🚀 Increase, decrease, or reset playback speed, with extended rates up to 16x on supported players. - 🔊 Native volume in clean 5% steps, or scroll your mouse wheel over a video. - 📢 Audio gain boost beyond 100% when a video just isn't loud enough, with a one-key reset. - 🖼️ Works inside embedded frames and open shadow-root players, not just the main page. - 🚫 Exclude any site from shortcuts, right from the popup. - 💬 A quick on-screen confirmation for every action. ⌨️ DEFAULT SHORTCUT SUGGESTIONS Video All Pause / Resume Last — Alt+Shift+S Video Forward Seconds (set in Settings) — Alt+D Video Backward Seconds (set in Settings) — Alt+A Playback Speed Increase — Ctrl+Shift+D Playback Speed Decrease — Ctrl+Shift+A Playback Speed Reset — Ctrl+Shift+S Volume Gain Increase — Alt+Shift+Up Volume Gain Reset — Alt+Shift+Down Volume Increase — Alt+Shift+Right Volume Decrease — Alt+Shift+Left Chrome limits how many shortcuts an extension can auto-assign. If yours shows "Not set," open the popup → Open Chrome Keyboard Shortcuts → set the keys you want, and switch the scope from "In Chrome" to "Global" if you'd like it to work everywhere. 🔊 NATIVE VOLUME VS. AUDIO GAIN Volume shortcuts move the player's own volume, so native controls stay in sync. Audio gain is a separate boost for going past 100% — it works after the player's volume, so it never moves the native 0–100% slider. 🔒 PRIVACY No account, no ads, no analytics, no telemetry, no remote code. Tab and media info is only ever used locally to route your command and respect your excluded sites. Everything stays in Chrome's local storage — nothing is sent to us or anyone else. 🌐 SITE-SPECIFIC REFINEMENTS - ▶️ YouTube & YouTube Music: native volume/mute sync, your chosen volume persists, native speed-menu sync, extended speed past the native max, and hover-preview videos can't steal your commands. - 🎬 Netflix: native seeking and speed changes, synced with Netflix's own speed selector without interrupting playback. - 🐦 X: mouse-wheel volume only kicks in when your pointer is over a video, so scrolling the feed elsewhere still just scrolls. - 👍 Facebook: wheel volume follows whichever Reel is visible, and remembers your last level across new Reels and reloads. - 🎓 Coursera: speed can go beyond the native 2x cap, and reset returns cleanly to 1x. For every other site, Media Control Shortcuts falls back to a smart, feature-detected HTML5 media adapter — so it just works.
