Overview

Play chess.com by voice. Say moves the way you think them: "knight f3", "e takes d5", "castle kingside".

Chessmate lets you play on chess.com by voice, hands-free. Say a move from square to square, like "e2 to e4", and Chessmate plays it on the board. Between moves, your voice gets you around the site too. Moves Say "e2 to e4", "knight f3", "bishop takes c6" or "castle kingside". Chessmate matches what it hears only against the moves that are legal right now, so a mishearing never plays an illegal move. • Two pieces can reach the square? Chessmate highlights both and asks which one. Answer with the square or the file. • A near miss is offered as "Did you mean Nf3?" and waits for "yes". Nothing is played without you. • Letters that sound alike? Say alpha, bravo, charlie, delta, echo, foxtrot, golf or hotel. • A move you say on your opponent's turn plays as soon as it is your turn. • Works in bot games, live games, puzzles, lessons and the analysis board. Around chess.com • Say "puzzles", "lessons", "bots" or "home" to go there. • Say "10 minutes" or "3 plus 2" to look for a live game. • Say "next", "retry", "hint" or "rematch" to press that button. • Say "what can I say" to see the buttons you can use on the page. Feedback without looking • Short tones tell you a move was played, a question needs an answer, or a move was refused. • Read moves aloud: hear every move, yours and your opponent's. • The panel lists what you said and what it did, and keeps that list as you move between pages. How to start Open chess.com, then click the Chessmate icon or press Alt+Shift+M (⌥⇧M on a Mac). Allow the microphone once. Privacy Chessmate has no servers and no analytics, and it doesn't record or store your voice. Chrome does the speech recognition: online through Google's speech service, or offline on your computer after Chrome downloads its speech model. You choose in the panel. Chessmate is an independent project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chess.com.
