Overview

Customize the new tab URL from the toolbar popup, including a local file.

Customize the new tab URL. Chrome doesn't let you choose which page opens in a new tab. It always opens its New Tab page, with a search bar and some browsing history. With this extension, click the toolbar icon and enter a link to a page, or a path to a local file. That address opens whenever you create a new tab. You change it from the popup. It is lightweight and easy to use. Light mode is on by default. Uncheck Light mode in the popup if you want the dark popup. To open a local file, turn on "Allow access to file URLs" for this extension. Open chrome://extensions, find Custom URL New Tab, click Details, and enable that option.
