Easily arrange your Chrome tabs in layouts of tiled sub-windows.

Tile Tabs — Split Your Browser Into Tiled Layouts (Major Reliability + Feature Update) Tile Tabs turns a single browser window into a grid of tiled sub-windows, so you can view several tabs side by side without juggling separate windows. Compare two documents, keep a video playing next to your notes, watch multiple dashboards at once, or reference a page while you write. Pick a layout — 2, 3, 4, 6, or All tabs, arranged vertically, horizontally, or in a grid — and Tile Tabs positions and sizes the windows for you. Resize tiles by dragging their edges, hide and restore a layout in one click, and save your favorite arrangements to reopen any time. This release is a major update. It rebuilds the extension for Manifest V3, fixes a long list of issues that stopped core features from working, and adds a set of new tools that make Tile Tabs faster to reach and more flexible to use. What we fixed Layouts work again. Under the new service-worker model, many everyday actions were failing behind the scenes — opening, closing, and hiding layouts, updating the toolbar badge, adding and removing tiles, and expanding a tile. We reworked the background engine so these run reliably from the toolbar, the keyboard shortcuts, the right-click menus, and the in-page quick menu. The Save, Open, Delete, and Default Layout dialogs open again, so you can manage saved layouts. The in-page quick menu, synchronized scrolling, and "open link in the next tile" work again in tiled windows. "Open in previous tile" (Shift) now works instead of always opening in the next tile. A leftover listener that hijacked middle-clicks after a tab left a layout is fixed. Tabs now return to their correct positions when a layout is hidden or closed. Removing a tile in a grid no longer crashes the layout. Keyboard shortcuts, menus, and the toolbar button also wake the extension reliably after it has been idle, so the first click is never missed. What's new A toolbar popup panel. Clicking the Tile Tabs icon now opens a compact panel with a visual layout picker (mini diagrams of each arrangement), your recent layouts, and one-click actions for the current layout — hide/show, refresh, rebalance, and close — plus Save, Open, Delete, and Options. A side panel. Open Tile Tabs in Chrome's side panel to manage layouts while you browse: start a new layout, reopen a saved one, or drag a tab from the list onto a tile to load it there. Layout recovery. Your active tiled layouts now survive a browser restart or the extension going idle, so a background restart no longer loses your arrangement. Import and Export. Export all of your saved layouts to a single JSON file and import them back on another computer or profile — an easy way to back up or share a setup. Cloud sync. Optionally sync your saved layouts across devices through your browser sign-in, so the layouts you save on one machine are available on another. Auto-open by site. Set simple rules ("domain = layout name") and Tile Tabs opens the matching saved layout automatically when you visit that site — great for dashboards and daily workflows. Lock a tile's URL. Pin a tile to a fixed page from the quick menu, so Refresh always reloads that URL — handy for dashboards and reference docs you never want to lose. Rebalance and keyboard focus. Instantly even out all tiles, and move focus from tile to tile with keyboard shortcuts (Focus Next/Previous Tile) that you can customize. Zoom memory. Each tile remembers its zoom level and restores it when the page reloads. Save a session. Save all of your open layouts at once as a named group so you can reopen them later from Open Layout. Dark mode. The blank page, options, dialogs, popup, side panel, and split view now follow your system's light or dark theme. Experimental split view. Try a single-window grid of pages (a grid of embedded frames) as an alternative to separate sub-windows. Some sites block being embedded, so this is offered as an experiment. Everything you rely on is still here: default layouts, "Tile Tab" for a single tab, add/remove/expand tiles, toggle toolbars per tile or for all tiles, refresh with optional page reload, choose a default page for empty tiles, manage how existing tabs are assigned and when tabs auto-close, and fine-tune window margins in the Advanced options. The four keyboard commands remain fully customizable on Chrome's Extensions Shortcuts page, now linked directly from Options. Privacy Tile Tabs works in your browser. Your options and saved layouts are stored using the browser's own storage; optional cloud sync uses your browser's built-in sync. Exported layout files stay on your device unless you share them.
