LinguaLens β Learn Languages on Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Max
Overview
Click any subtitle word on Netflix, YouTube, Prime, Max, Disney+ for context-aware translation + SRS flashcards. Free, no signup.
LinguaLens turns the streaming you already do into language practice. Every subtitle on Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Max (HBO), and Disney+ and more becomes interactive: click a word you don't know, get a contextual translation in your native language, save it, and come back to review with mini-games β not boring flashcards. βββ How it works βββ While watching: β’ Dual subtitles (target + native language) side by side. β’ Click any word β popup shows its translation, the meaning in this scene (not just the dictionary's first guess), pronunciation, and optional Anthropic Claude AI commentary on slang, sarcasm, or cultural references. β’ Hyphenated words and contractions ("brother-in-law", "I'll") are handled correctly. Shift-click selects multi-word phrases ("look forward to"). β’ Pause on hover, auto-pause at sentence end, hide-translation-until-hover for active recall. While reviewing: β’ 7 review modes, all auto-game-ified β no boring 4-button flashcard: β¦ Due review (SuperMemo-2 spaced repetition) β¦ Stuck on (leech detection) β¦ Quiz (multi-choice fill-in-the-blank) β¦ Match (6-pair pairing game) β¦ Type (typing recall) β¦ Listen (TTS-first quiz) β¦ Reverse (recall the source word from the translation) β’ Daily streak counter, 30-day activity heatmap, editable daily goal. β’ Sound + speech feedback: chime on correct, soft buzz on wrong, every word read aloud after pick. βββ What makes it different βββ β’ 5 streaming platforms supported out of the box β most extensions cover 1 or 2. β’ Multi-source dictionary: Google Translate baseline + 270+ idiom dictionary + Urban Dictionary slang fallback + optional Anthropic Claude contextual reading. β’ Contextual sense matching: "toast" in a wedding scene becomes "raise a glass", not "bread". β’ Behavior-based subtitle detection: works even on platforms (Disney+, HBO Max) that ship subtitles through obscure rendering paths instead of standard <track> elements. β’ Subtitle delay slider (Β±2 seconds) for platforms that occasionally ship out-of-sync captions. β’ Anki TSV export for power users. β’ 7 UI languages out of the box (English, Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese), auto-detected from your browser. βββ Privacy βββ LinguaLens has no servers of its own. All saved words and settings stay in your browser via chrome.storage. Translation requests go directly to Google Translate and (optionally) Anthropic β only the word you click + the surrounding sentence. Nothing is sent to a LinguaLens-controlled server because there isn't one. βββ Optional AI βββ Bring your own Anthropic API key for Claude-powered contextual reading of sarcasm, idioms, and cultural references. Off by default. Direct API access from your browser β billing on your own Anthropic account, never on us. βββ Open source βββ MIT licensed, written in TypeScript + React.
