Overview
Cost of every BigQuery query in a top bar, detection of poorly optimized SQL and a local library of queries and snippets.
Cost Lens shows the estimated cost of every BigQuery query right inside the Google Cloud console, before you press Run, and tells you why a query is expensive. WHAT IT DOES • Live cost next to the Run button: bytes to be read, estimated cost and an optimization grade (A–F). • Top bar with today's and this month's estimated spend. • Optimization score (0–100) with concrete findings and the exact line: SELECT *, tables read without WHERE, OR in JOIN conditions, functions that prevent partition pruning, wildcard tables without _TABLE_SUFFIX, ORDER BY without LIMIT, repeated CTEs and more. • Expand SELECT * into the table's real column list with one click (uses the schema the console already shows; undo with Ctrl+Z). • Estimated monthly storage cost on the table details page, comparing logical vs. physical billing at list price, with a hint when the other billing model is cheaper. • Tables in your query with shortcuts to Knowledge Catalog (Dataplex) search, data profiling & quality, and the table in BigQuery (lineage, quality and profile tabs). • A confirmation before running queries above your cost threshold. • Post-run diagnosis from "Execution details": slot time, shuffle, spill, billed bytes and the Editions equivalent. • Repository and snippets: save only the queries you choose, with a name, tags and notes. Runs and spend are tracked for saved queries. • Full-screen library with search, project and tag filters, bulk actions and favorites (★). • Export a query as text, Markdown, PDF or JSON, back up everything and import files from teammates. • English and Spanish (follows your browser language), local currency and configurable prices (on-demand, Editions and storage). PRIVACY Everything runs and is stored in your browser. No servers, no analytics, no data sent to anyone. The extension never runs or sends queries; it only writes into the editor when you press "Expand *". NOTES Costs are estimates based on the BigQuery dry run, the table storage figures and the prices you configure; the amount billed by Google may differ (cache, 10 MB per-table minimum, free tiers, discounts, reservations, regional prices).
