Overview

One-click organization for Chrome's native vertical tabs, optionally enhanced by on-device AI.

Taba Tabs is a one-click organizer for Chrome's native vertical tabs. Choose a method from the persistent Taba Tabs group and the extension resets every eligible tab, then groups and orders the full window in one action without replacing Chrome's tab interface. Settings lets you show only the shortcuts you use. Smart organize, Opening trails, Time, Domain, Content type, the display-only Recent tabs list, and Undo/Redo are individually selectable. Undo/Redo sits immediately above Cleanup when enabled; Cleanup always remains available at the bottom. Choose from: - Custom categories stay fixed first in every organization method; the selected method applies to the remaining tabs. - Smart organize: saved site and user-category rules first, then confident optional on-device task understanding, specific services, content classification, and domain fallback. Compact group titles use naked names, with `✨ ` reserved for shared AI tasks. Opening relationships affect only the order within each result. - Opening trails: keep pages opened from one another together. - Time: group recent work into dated, newest-first time ranges. - Domain: keep services, subdomains, and related sites together. - Content type: group common AI, development, social, shopping, finance, research, media, and other sites using a local taxonomy. - Recent tabs: search every currently open content tab in the current window by title, site, or group while preserving most-recent-focus order. Chrome-local site icons and current native group colors/names make results recognizable; group chips narrow the same live list, and arrow keys move through it. Selecting a result switches tabs without organizing. The list, search, icons, and group display are never stored by Taba Tabs. Pinned tabs, Taba Tabs' own launcher tabs, and groups you explicitly protect are left untouched. Use the page context menu to protect or unprotect a native group. Undo/Redo keeps the latest two valid layouts so you can move safely between them. Every native group temporarily shows `🔊` while one of its tabs is producing sound, or `🔇` when every audible member is muted. The exact title returns when sound stops; group color, order, collapsed state, and saved layouts do not change. Cleanup is always confirm-first: Taba Tabs shows the page title, URL, and reason for every suggested tab, selects candidates by default, and closes only the items you confirm. Active, pinned, audible, and protected tabs are excluded. Taba Tabs is local-first. It does not use analytics, advertising, accounts, persistent content scripts, remote code, cloud AI, or developer-operated servers. Open-tab metadata, layout history, user-created category names, optional exact-site category rules, and a seven-day count of how often each site was brought to the front stay in Chrome storage and are used only for tab organization and restoration. The usage count records domains only, never URLs or page content, and can be cleared in settings. Optional on-device AI is off by default and affects only Smart organize and Content type. Chrome's local Gemini Nano model can process current-tab titles, URL origins and paths, and the existing local category. If the user separately enables page understanding and grants optional website access, Taba Tabs may also provide a short temporary excerpt from a limited number of uncertain public pages to that on-device model. It excludes form fields, passwords, editable content, private/local pages, and known sensitive categories. Excerpts are never stored or transmitted to the developer or a remote AI service. Every organization method continues to work with local rules when AI is off or unavailable.
