This release is a major reliability and usability update. Here is what is new and improved. More of your drawing, actually visible Previous versions quietly skipped several common entity types, so drawings could appear blank or incomplete with no explanation. DXF Viewer now draws more geometry — including ellipses and multiline text (MTEXT) — and, just as importantly, it tells you when something cannot be shown. If a file contains entities the viewer does not yet support, such as splines or hatches, a clear notice reports exactly which types and how many, so you are never left guessing why a drawing looks partial. Clear feedback instead of silent failures Open a file that is damaged, empty, or not actually a DXF, and you now get a friendly, readable message rather than a frozen progress bar. The viewer also detects DWG files that have simply been renamed to .dxf — a very common mix-up — and explains how to export a proper DXF instead. Reading and rendering errors are handled gracefully, and if the drawing font fails to load, your geometry still displays. Real 2D drawing controls Navigation now behaves the way a 2D CAD viewer should. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom, and use the on-screen Fit, Zoom In, Zoom Out, and Reset buttons to frame your drawing precisely. Rotation — which used to spin flat drawings off into empty 3D space with no easy way back — is turned off, so your drawing stays exactly where it belongs. Layers panel A new side panel lists every layer in your drawing with its color swatch and a visibility toggle. Turn layers on and off to isolate exactly the geometry you care about — perfect for busy drawings that keep dimensions, hatching, and annotation on separate layers. Background themes Switch the canvas between black, white, and grey. Black is the classic CAD background, and entity colors are adjusted automatically for contrast, so black-or-white geometry is never invisible against the background you choose. Measure and read coordinates A live coordinate readout follows your cursor in drawing units, and a built-in Measure tool reports the distance between any two points you click, along with the horizontal and vertical offsets. It is a fast way to sanity-check sizes before you send a file off to be cut or manufactured. Export to PNG Save the current view as a PNG image with a single click — handy for sharing a snapshot, dropping a drawing into a report, or keeping a quick visual record for yourself. Responsive, full-window layout The viewer now fills your browser window and adapts to any screen size, from a small laptop to a large monitor, and it re-fits smoothly when you resize the window. Drag-and-drop works anywhere on the page, and re-opening the same file now works reliably — small fixes that remove everyday friction. Faster, cleaner, and privacy-first Under the hood, the extension has been trimmed of unused code and duplicate libraries, cutting the download size by roughly two-thirds for a lighter, faster install. As always, it requests effectively no special permissions and performs no data collection: your files are parsed locally, right inside your browser, and are never transmitted anywhere. Open with your files On supported systems you can register DXF Viewer as a handler for .dxf files, so opening a drawing can take you straight into the viewer.
