Turn a student's NESA Schools Online sample exam responses into a report with their answers and the official marking guidelines together. NESA Online Sample Exam Marking Tool helps approved NSW Department of Education teachers mark supported sample papers without retyping responses or assembling marking documents. Choose an unmarked PDF for marking on paper, or an interactive report for marking in your browser. HOW TO USE IT 1. Open the extension and select Sign in with Google using your approved Department of Education staff account. 2. Open NESA Schools Online and log in with your Schools Online staff account. 3. Open HSC Online Exams and choose a supported course. 4. Under Sample Examination, select Results, then open a student's linked name with status Complete. 5. With the student's responses displayed, open the extension and choose Create PDF or Mark student. CHOOSE YOUR REPORT Create PDF: Downloads an unmarked PDF containing the student's responses and official marking guidance for manual marking by teachers, peers or students. No automatic scores are applied. The file saves to Chrome's download location without a print dialog. Mark student: Opens an interactive marking report. Supported objective questions are marked automatically against the official answer key. For responses requiring judgement, click the appropriate mark in the rubric (marking criteria). The running total and performance summaries update as you mark. Select Print to print the marked report or use Chrome's Save as PDF for records, moderation or feedback. WHAT IT DOES Automatic marking for supported multiple-choice, multiple-answer, radio-button, dropdown and ordering questions where a verified official answer key is available. Official marking criteria and sample answers alongside the relevant responses, where available. Student drawings and code, without changing the original submissions. Performance summaries by question type, topic and syllabus outcome, using the official mapping grid. Reviewing Code Python runs locally when the report opens, showing up to 10 output lines. If input is needed, the preview stops and shows Requires input. In Mark student, select Run to enter values when prompted and view up to 50 output lines in a scrollable box. Execution timeouts stop programs that run too long, including infinite loops. SQL runs locally only when you select Run. Pseudocode is displayed as text and never executed. Code output helps you review an answer; it does not award marks automatically. Courses The Software Engineering & Enterprise Computing sample examinations are currently supported. Science Extension and English Extension are planned for 2027, but are not yet supported. Only papers with verified answer keys and matching marking guidance are available. Privacy Marking and PDF generation happen in your browser. During normal marking, the extension does not upload student names, numbers, answers, code, drawings or marks to the tool's server. An internet connection is needed for Google sign-in, access checks, marking guidance and linked submissions from NESA. Your staff email is used to verify approved access. Report a problem sends your description and technical details only when you submit it, plus your email if signed in. Page data is excluded unless you explicitly choose to attach it for that report. Attachments can contain answers, code, drawings and diagnostic details. Student names, NESA numbers and session credentials are removed, and you must review the preview before sending. Distinctive answers may still identify a student, so de-identified data is not necessarily anonymous. PDFs may contain student identities and work. Store and share them according to your school's requirements. See the privacy policy for full details. What You Need An approved NSW Department of Education Google account (@education.nsw.gov.au). Authorised access to the student's responses in NESA Schools Online. Google Chrome 103 or later and an internet connection. Extension access is for approved staff only. Students can use a PDF provided by a teacher for self- or peer marking; they cannot sign in to the extension. Not Affiliated With NESA This independent tool was built by Ben Jones at Tempe High School. It is not produced, endorsed or supported by the NSW Education Standards Authority. It reads only pages you are authorised to view. It does not change student records or submit marks or responses to NESA.
