Overview

Ask Claude about your Canvas courses, deadlines, grades and grading queue. Reads Canvas with your own sign-in, no API token.

Canvas MCP lets the AI app you already use answer questions about your Canvas courses: "what's due this week?", "which assignments am I missing?", "what's my grade in each class?" How it works The extension reads Canvas through the session you are already signed in to in Chrome. There is no API token to create and nothing else to install. The popup gives you a personal connector URL; your AI app calls it over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and the Canvas MCP relay passes each request to the extension in your Chrome and the answer back. Works with Claude On claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude Code and the mobile apps, from one connector added in a click. Then ask. Two panels open inside the conversation: for TAs, the grading queue, with a SpeedGrader button per assignment; for students, the coursework due this week and anything missing, each one click from Canvas. Your library Ask Claude to save a quiz, flashcards or a study guide it made, and it lands in your library: open it in Chrome's side panel or in a tab. It is kept on your computer, and Claude can read it back in a later chat. The popup and the side panel The popup gives today at a glance, read live from Canvas: how much is waiting to be graded, due in the next 7 days and missing, the one thing to do next, and the next few things due. The side panel has the rest: what is due in every course in the next 7 days, by day, whether you take the course, teach it or observe it; what is waiting in each course you TA or teach (the oldest item, one click from SpeedGrader); and your library. Ask Claude opens claude.ai with a prompt ready: to plan what is due or your grading, or to make something for your library. If Canvas MCP does not know your school's Canvas address yet, the AI asks you for it. What the AI can read Courses, assignments with due dates and submission status, grades and grade weights, calendar events, your Canvas to-do list (including grading, for TAs), modules, announcements, discussions, pages, files, the syllabus and your profile. It is read-only: it cannot submit, post or change anything on Canvas. Privacy Canvas data passes through the relay on its way to your AI app and is not stored or logged there. No account, no tracking. Your AI app sends what it reads to its own model provider, as it does with anything you ask it. Your connector URL is the only credential: keep it to your own apps, and make a new one in the popup to turn the old one off.
