LOCAL AI SETUP 1. Install Ollama from ollama.com/download. 2. Open the extension popup and click “Set up local AI translation.” 3. Follow the Mac, Windows, or Linux instructions to allow this extension and enable automatic startup. 4. Run: ollama pull translategemma:12b 5. Click “Check connection,” then “Use TranslateGemma.” Refresh X. The model download is about 8.1 GB. Additional disk space and memory are required. Tested on an M4 Pro Mac with 24 GB memory; performance varies. Once automatic startup is configured, no terminal needs to stay open. For simpler setup, keep Chrome Translator selected. Chrome may ask to download a language pack. Chrome 138 or later and supported language pairs are required. PRIVACY Translations run locally. Ollama mode sends public post text only to the local Ollama service at 127.0.0.1 on your computer. The extension excludes direct messages and does not send post text to a cloud translation provider. Settings are saved locally; translations are cached in memory. No ads or analytics. LIMITATIONS Translation can make mistakes. Images and surrounding conversation context are not translated. Native X translation replacement is verified with the X interface in English. Flags indicate language, not author nationality. X interface changes may affect compatibility. Unofficial.
