Old Reddit Curator gives you a real editor for your old.reddit.com feed. Approve the subs you want, block the ones you don't, filter by word, mute users, hide posts you're done with, and catch the karma-farm accounts — all of it reversible, all of it synced across your machines, and none of it touching your Reddit account. Everything here is local. The extension never posts, never votes, never blocks through Reddit's API, and never sends your lists anywhere except your own Chrome sync, or if you choose, your own Google Drive. It also stays out of the way. Nothing floats over the page. The controls live in reddit's own header and in the sidebar, wearing whatever colours the subreddit you're on is wearing. ──────────────────────────────────────── WHERE IT WORKS old.reddit.com only. Approved and Blocked subreddit lists apply on the big mixed feeds — your front page, /r/all, /r/popular and multireddits — the places you don't choose what shows up. Word filters, user blocking, post hiding and karma profiles work everywhere on old.reddit.com. ──────────────────────────────────────── IN REDDIT'S OWN HEADER One button opens the menu. Beside it a small light reports sync, and clicking it opens a status window rather than a bar across your page. Then the fade slider, with two mode buttons beside it. THE FADE SLIDER decides how much of a blocked post you still see. Show All is the right-hand end. Drag left and the posts your lists caught get fainter, the subreddit name holding on longest so you can still tell what a faded post is, until at the far left they leave the page entirely. It is one control replacing what used to be a choice between hiding and dimming. I — ISOLATION. A banner appears carrying every list as a button. Light up the ones you want and those are the only posts on the page; several at once if you like. It is the fastest way to audit a rule before you trust it — isolate a word filter and you see exactly what it is catching, and nothing else. U — ONLY UNSORTED. Every post on any of your lists leaves. What's left is what you have never filed anywhere, which is the whole point of it. It's remembered between sessions, so a bar across the top names the mode and carries the × that leaves it. ──────────────────────────────────────── IN REDDIT'S SIDEBAR A word filter box sits under the search bar: type a word, choose exact or aggressive from the dropdown beside the heading, press +. It is built to reddit's own measurements, so it reads as one more piece of sidebar furniture rather than something bolted on. ──────────────────────────────────────── ON THE POSTS THEMSELVES Every post in the big feeds carries a ✓ and a × — approve or block that subreddit without leaving the page. Approved and blocked subreddit links are tinted green and red in the feed, so you can see your own verdicts as you scroll. PRESS AND HOLD ANYWHERE ON A POST to hide it. A red line draws through the title over about seven-tenths of a second; let go early and nothing happens, and a quick click still does whatever that click normally does. Drag more than a few pixels and it stops, so selecting text can never hide a post. Holding a username blocks that user instead. Clicking a post title does what reddit does: link posts go out to their link, self posts go to their comments. No click in this extension opens a post in place — reddit's own expand button, which the extension draws slightly larger, is the way to do that. A hidden post can stay on the page as a ghost. Click it to peek, and an Unpeek button appears in its tagline to put it back. ──────────────────────────────────────── THE LISTS Approved Subreddits — subs you always want to see. Never hidden by a subreddit block. Blocked Subreddits — subs you never want to see on the big feeds. Visiting the subreddit directly still works; this is about the feed, not a wall. Unclassified — not a list, a state. Anything you haven't filed anywhere simply is unclassified, and it shows, because nothing hides a post for the absence of a verdict. To see only the unjudged, slide the header control to Only Unsorted. Exact Filter List — whole-word, case-insensitive match on post titles and subreddit names. "game" matches "Game" but not "games". Aggressive Filter List — substring match anywhere. "game" also catches "games", "gameplay", "videogame". Blocked Users — the extension's own user list. No Reddit API, no login, and no 1,000-user cap. Their posts leave the listings and their comments collapse the way Reddit's own blocking collapses them — expandable if you want to look. Hidden — posts you've hidden, kept in timestamped batches. Karma Blocker — named rules that hide posts from accounts whose karma looks manufactured. The lists have no on/off switches. An empty list already says "not in use", and it says it with the same controls you use to work the list. To stop one, empty it, or remove the entry you're tired of. ──────────────────────────────────────── HIDING POSTS Hides are local and completely reversible. Nothing touches Reddit's destructive hide API. Every hide is kept as a timestamped batch: unhide a whole batch, unhide a single post, clear the Hidden list in one undoable action, or just switch the extension off to see everything again. The newest 2,000 hidden posts travel with sync, with tombstones so an unhide on one PC can't be resurrected by another; everything older moves to an unlimited archive on your own device, so a post you hid stays hidden rather than quietly coming back once the list is full. ──────────────────────────────────────── KARMA BLOCK PROFILES Karma profiles hide posts from accounts whose karma looks bought or farmed, and they're built one setting per screen with a numbered row across the top showing where you are. You choose which karma to judge — post, comment, or total — and how to measure it: an absolute ceiling ("over 500,000 total karma"), or an earning speed, read in karma per year. Then AGE SCALING, on one curve. A young account and an eight-year account should not face the same bar, so one handle sets how steeply the bar bends with age: at full, a six-month account faces a quarter of your bar and an eight-year account four times it. At none, every age faces the same bar. The chart draws the whole scale of judgment and you can read off any age by pointing at the curve. Free passes work the other way: an account older than the age you name is left alone whatever else matches. Any enabled profile that trips hides the post, so build several narrow profiles rather than one giant one. Author karma is read from Reddit's own public profile JSON, fetched politely at no more than one account per 350 ms and cached for a week. When karma is what took a post down, the post's ? carries an Add karma exception button — that account stops being hidden by your karma rules, all of them, and the post comes back straight away. ──────────────────────────────────────── A ? ON EVERY CONTROL Every control carries a small ?. Click one and you get a short explanation and a picture of the thing itself: two panes labelled DEFAULT REDDIT and OLD REDDIT CURATOR, showing the same post as reddit draws it and as the extension leaves it. Several are live. Type into the word-filter demo and watch example posts disappear. Type an account's karma and age into the karma demo and get the verdict from the same code that judges your feed. Page through the gallery demo with its own arrows. Watch the two-PC sync animation resolve a conflict. Where a card borrows a real post from your page to demonstrate on, the personal parts are replaced — the author becomes "username", the subreddit becomes "r/subreddit", the picture becomes a sample — and the card says underneath what it swapped. Nothing is blurred, because a smudge reads as damage as easily as it reads as privacy. ──────────────────────────────────────── THE MENU One fixed 780×560 box, the same shape whether a list holds three entries or three thousand. A rail down the left carries every list with its running count; click one and it opens in the pane beside it with about twenty entries visible, its add box, its ISO button, its clear-all and its undo/redo. SEARCH IS A MODE. Type a word, press Enter, and every list narrows to what matches. The rail turns into your results — how many hits each list holds, greyed where there are none — and you click through them to read one list at a time in the ordinary pane. It stays put while you look around and ends when you clear it. Every list keeps its own sort rule, alphabetical or chronological, either direction, and its own undo/redo twenty-five actions deep. All of it lives in a shadow root, so a subreddit's custom CSS cannot restyle it. The menus look the same on every sub. ──────────────────────────────────────── SETTINGS Browsing options, all on by default and all one checkbox each: endless scrolling, the inline ✓ × buttons, reddit's header and sidebar following you down the page, one-line hidden posts, images rendered in comments, galleries opening enlarged, a larger expand button, and plain post titles — which strips subreddit-added emoji and reduces flair tags to one quiet grey chip on the big feeds, so no subreddit can shout in its own palette. Cross-Device Sync and Import/Export live here too, along with your Karma Block Profiles and the master switch that stands the whole extension down. ──────────────────────────────────────── SYNC By default your lists ride Chrome's own sync storage, so any machine signed into the same Chrome profile gets them live, with no page reload. Merging is per-entry and timestamp-based, so two devices editing at once always converge, and deletes leave a tombstone for 180 days so a delete beats a stale add from a machine that was offline. Lists travel packed and compressed, which means large setups use well under half the 100 KB quota. If you outgrow it, switch the backend to Google Drive: same data, same merge rules, stored in Drive's hidden app-data folder where it won't clutter your Drive. Switching back is always allowed, and the extension tells you straight away if your lists are too big for Chrome sync rather than appearing to succeed and failing later. Sync can be switched off entirely to keep each machine independent. If sync is actually broken, a bar says so in one sentence and stands until it's fixed — it can't be dismissed, because a fault you dismissed is a fault you stop seeing. No telemetry. No remote code. Nothing is sent to the developer — there is no developer server. The extension makes exactly four kinds of network request, and none of them goes to the developer: 1. Reddit's own image servers, to show an image posted in a comment as the image 4.
