AskBetter helps you write better prompts and cleaner text — directly where you already work, without switching tabs. Bring your own API key from Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic. Gemini has a free tier, so you can start without a credit card. There is no subscription and no middleman: requests go straight from your browser to the provider you picked. TWO MODES Ask Better — adds an Optimize button inside ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini (or press Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+O). It rewrites your current prompt using your selected preset and provider, then shows the result in a non-destructive preview you can edit, compare, refine, and accept. Your original is never overwritten until you say so. Phrase Better — right-click any selected text on the web to rephrase it. By default it fixes grammar, spelling, and punctuation while keeping your original wording and tone. You can also pick a preset — rephrase, casual reply, or formal message — and stack optional adjustments like keep my voice, humanize, polish wording, or add a little wit. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT • Non-destructive preview — review every rewrite before it touches your text. Accept, Regenerate, edit inline, or Discard. • Diff view — see exactly which words changed between your original and the rewrite. • Refine — follow up in plain language ("make it shorter", "more formal") and iterate without starting over. • Multiple options — optionally generate 2–3 rewrites in one call and pick the best. • Token and cost estimate — each rewrite shows approximate tokens and cost, so there are no billing surprises. • Prompt History — a local list of your recent rewrites (original → optimized) you can copy and reuse. • Reports — a local 30-day chart of your usage by provider and by mode, with an approximate total cost. • Always-current models — model lists load live from each provider, so newly released models appear without an extension update. Reusable Custom Prompt Additions let you layer on tone, thinking style, perspective, and output format, and a Keep my voice option preserves your writing style while improving the prompt.
