Free Search Switcher

A cross-browser extension for switching between preferred and custom search engines while preserving the current search query.

Free Search Switcher lets you continue a submitted query with another provider using compact controls beside the search bar. Choose a destination to navigate in the current tab. Your submitted text is preserved, including accents and other Unicode characters. If no query has been submitted, the selected homepage opens instead. Unfinished typing is never transferred. FEATURES - Choose up to two different preferred destinations for quick switching, or use the complete menu without a preference. - Add custom destinations with an HTTPS homepage and a URL template containing one {query} placeholder. - Use the toolbar popup to enable or disable the extension, change preferences, and open Settings. Popup changes save immediately. - Choose which supported websites display the controls. Disabling them on a website does not remove that provider as a destination. - Review Settings edits before choosing Save changes, or discard them with Cancel. Unsaved drafts are protected when saved configuration changes elsewhere. - Synchronize configuration through the browser's own service where supported and enabled. - Preserve compatible result modes, with a normal web search as fallback. - Use keyboard-accessible controls with visible focus indicators and light or dark styling. WEBSITE SUPPORT Controls are available on seven built-in HTTPS origins. The supported providers are listed in Settings and the documentation. Regional domains, alternate subdomains, and some special layouts may not be supported. Custom destinations do not expand the websites where controls appear. Global and per-site changes take effect after a page reload. The popup offers a reload action when needed; undoing the change before reloading clears an unnecessary warning. CUSTOM ICONS AND UPGRADES Custom destinations can use an optional HTTPS image URL. Unavailable images fall back to a first-letter icon. Upgrading preserves existing preferences, custom destinations, and their order. Previously uploaded icons are removed, while their destinations remain available. PRIVACY On supported pages, the current URL and limited submitted-query metadata are processed temporarily to provide switching. Queries are sent directly to the destination you select. They are not logged, stored by the extension, or synchronized. Browser-native sync contains configuration only. Availability depends on browser support and account settings. The developer does not operate the sync service or receive synchronized settings. Only custom icon URL strings are saved. The browser may contact the external image host when displaying an icon, exposing ordinary connection information such as your IP address. The extension does not upload or proxy images. There are no analytics, telemetry, advertisements, tracking, developer-operated servers, or Free Search Switcher accounts. LIMITATIONS Provider-specific filters, pagination, dates, regions, and SafeSearch settings are not transferred. The extension does not replace the browser's default search engine, new-tab page, or address-bar behavior. Switching is initiated by the user.
