Proofr is an AI proofreader, rewriter, and translator that lives in your right-click menu. Select any text on a page, then pick what you want: fix the grammar, rewrite it in a different tone, or translate it. You get a cleaner version in a second, right where you were typing. Most writing tools send everything you type to their servers and make you sign in first. Proofr works differently. By default it runs on your own computer using Chrome's built-in AI, so your text never leaves your machine. There is no account, no login, and no API key to set up. What you can do: - Proofread. Fix grammar, spelling, and punctuation while keeping your own wording and voice. - Rewrite in a tone that fits: Professional, Friendly, Concise, Plain English, LinkedIn, Marketing, Executive, Academic, or News. - Translate into English, Spanish, French, German, or Japanese. How it works: 1. Install it. There is nothing to sign up for. 2. Select some text on any page. 3. Right-click and choose Proofr, then pick proofread, a tone, or translate. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+R for a quick fix. In an editable field like a Gmail draft or a comment box, Proofr replaces your text in place. Everywhere else it shows the result in a small panel you can copy from. Why people use it: - No sign-ups, daily limits, or usage quotas. Rewrite as often as you like. - It is private. Your writing stays on your computer. - It works where you already write: Gmail, Google Docs, LinkedIn, X, Notion, and any text box. - It stays out of the way. No sidebars and no pop-ups while you type. Want more power? You can add a Groq API key to switch to a larger cloud model that handles more languages, longer passages, and harder text. That is optional and off by default. If you use it, your text goes straight to Groq for processing, and nothing passes through us. Your privacy, in plain terms: - On-device by default, so your text is not sent anywhere. - No accounts, no tracking, no analytics, no ads. - Your settings and optional key are stored only in your browser.
